Description

OpenLoop is looking for an Assistant Controller to join our team remotely or at our HQ in Des Moines, IA. The Assistant Controller will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of our rapidly growing company. This position involves overseeing daily accounting functions, financial reporting, compliance, and supporting strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a passion for driving efficiency in a high-growth environment.


About the Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the monthly/quarterly/annual accounting close process
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Support the Controller in managing the overall accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Help implement and monitor internal controls and financial processes to identify areas for improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process, providing necessary coordination and support.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and reporting.
  • Manage compliance with tax regulations and assist in preparing tax filings.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior finance staff as needed.
  • Participate in special projects and ad-hoc analyses to support business initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including a blend of public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier) and experience in a high-growth technology company.
  • CPA certification or currently pursuing it.
  • Experience in managing and developing remote teams/employees.
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting (i.e. ASC 606, ASC 842, stock-based comp, etc.).
  • Experience with financial statement consolidation, including international consolidations
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SageIntacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Positive, energetic, optimistic attitude, not afraid to roll up your sleeves
  • Team player, strong interpersonal skills including conscientiousness, diplomacy, flexibility, dependability, and, last but not least, a good sense of humor
