Job description

Overview:

The Harper Group, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is seeking a Marketing Intern!

The Harper Group is comprised of several imprints —-- flagship imprint Harper, as well as Harper Business, Broadside Books and Harper Influence —– and publishes a range of titles across most publishing categories from authors including Ann Patchett, Daniel Silva, Mitch Albom, Barbara Kingsolver, Louise Erdrich and more.

The Harper Marketing department consists of ten dynamic and creative individuals, who work across all Harper imprints and genres to implement widespread promotion and sales coverage for our titles. Projects may include influencer outreach, marketing research, social media, buzz mailings and more.

There are plenty of opportunities to network, and the end of the program culminates with a presentation called “How to Get a Job in Publishing” – offering advice on your resume, cover letter, interview, and networking. The recruitment team is searching for applicants who identify with groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the publishing industry.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop a working understanding of the teams and tasks involved in publication of the Harper Group’s books
  • Learn important publishing software programs and use them to assist in creating marketing copy, influencer outreach, administrative tasks, and other departmental functions
  • Assist with managing departmental accounts on Goodreads and NetGalley
  • Coordinate marketing mailings for buzz building campaigns to bookstores and influencers
  • Assist with digital marketing tasks including digital advertising, social media outreach, and other content creation to promote our books
  • Brainstorm and build lists for various methods of promotion, including book clubs, influencers and more.
Qualifications:
  • Proactive and attentive to detail.
  • Engaged and thoughtful communicator willing to coordinate cross-departmental work.
  • Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Canva a plus.
  • Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2025 or 2026 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors, recent graduates, master’s students, or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience.
  • Candidates must be available to work remotely for two days each week, totaling 14 hours, from February 3 – April 11, 2025. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • A resume and cover letter are required; applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Please address your cover letter to “Hiring Team.”
  • Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or master’s program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Candidates must demonstrate effective task prioritization skills.
  • A passion for books is highly valued!
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is required.

The deadline to apply is November 20 by 11:59 pm ET.
