Background 

Circular Action Alliance (CAA), a 501(c)3, is poised to be a leader in changing how packaging is designed, responsibly managed and given a second life in a circular economy. CAA became the first U.S. Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) for paper and packaging in 2022, and in less than a year was selected by California, Colorado, and Oregon to represent producers and meet the requirements of their laws. The organization is poised to deliver best-in-class compliance services, scale innovation, and build systems that help both companies and consumers waste less and recycle more in these states, and in other states that have passed or will pass EPR laws in the future.  

Working with CAA presents an opportunity to be on the front edge of recycling system innovations that will have a meaningful and lasting impact. As a member of the CAA team, you will support the organization’s mission-driven work with our Founding Members who are leaders in the food, beverage, consumer goods, and retail industries; companies (“producers”) whose packaging will be managed under these new laws; and a diverse array of stakeholders whose collaboration will be critical to delivering on the requirements of U.S. EPR laws and creating a circular economy for paper and packaging. We are looking for passionate, mission-driven, big thinkers to help us realize the full potential of the nation’s first EPR laws. 

Position Overview: 

The Data Governance Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and security of data within the Producer Services team. This role focuses on establishing and maintaining data governance policies, ensuring data integrity across Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud, and supporting strategic decision-making related to producer recruitment, engagement, and compliance. The Specialist will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Communications and Producer Services, to ensure adherence to data governance standards and optimize data management processes. 

Primary Responsibilities 

Data Integrity and Governance: 

  • Data Quality Management: Oversee the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data within Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud. Implement data governance frameworks and ensure compliance with established data quality standards.
  • Data Governance Policies: Develop, enforce, and continuously improve data governance policies, including data entry standards, validation rules, and data access protocols. Ensure all users adhere to data governance rules across platforms.
  • Data Auditing: Conduct regular data audits to monitor compliance with data governance policies. Address any data discrepancies, inconsistencies, or quality issues identified during audits, and propose corrective measures.
  • Data Integration and Management: Ensure seamless integration of data from external sources into Salesforce platforms. Manage the data flow between systems, ensuring that data is accuratetimely, and governed by the correct standards.

2. CRM Process Optimization: 

  • CRM Workflow Optimization: Assist the Senior Manager in optimizing workflows in Salesforce Sales Cloud related to lead management, segmentation, and producer engagement. Support automation initiatives that enhance data governance processes.
  • Ongoing Data Governance: Act as the gatekeeper of data quality within the CRM by monitoring data governance compliance and ensuring data consistency across platforms. Implement governance controls that prevent data quality issues and improve overall CRM efficiency.
  • Data Cleansing: Identify and resolve data quality issues such as duplicates, incorrect data, and incomplete records. Implement solutions to maintain a clean, well-organized CRM.

3. Reporting and Analytics: 

  • Data Quality Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports that track the quality of data and adherence to governance standards across Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud. Provide insights on data health and suggest improvements.
  • Campaign and Segment Reporting: Analyze data from Salesforce Marketing Cloud campaigns, ensuring compliance with governance policies. Provide actionable insights based on data segmentation and suggest optimizations for future campaigns.
  • Compliance Tracking: Collaborate with Account Managers to develop reports that track producer compliance. Ensure that all compliance-related data is accurate, properly governed, and accessible in Salesforce.

4. Producer Services and Cross-Functional Collaboration: 

  • Account Manager Support: Work closely with Account Managers to ensure that producer data is accurate and accessible, enabling them to track recruitment, engagement, and compliance. Develop reports and tools that streamline their ability to monitor producer activity.
  • Producer Support Insights: Collaborate with the Producer Support team to ensure that customer service data is accurately captured and integrated into Salesforce Sales Cloud. Provide recommendations for improving data governance within the support process.
  • Communications Team Collaboration: Partner with the Communications team to analyze and optimize marketing campaigns, ensuring that data segmentation adheres to governance policies. Ensure alignment between Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud data.

5. Continuous Improvement and Innovation: 

  • Data Governance Strategy: Contribute to the continuous improvement of data governance policies by identifying opportunities to enhance data management processes and implement automation solutions.
  • Automation and Process Optimization: Support efforts to automate data workflows within Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud. Help implement tools and technologies that improve data integrity, governance, and reporting capabilities.
  • Best Practices Development: Research and implement industry best practices for data governance. Ensure that the Producer Services team follows the latest standards for data quality, governance, and process optimization. 

Required Skills/Abilities 

  • Salesforce Expertise: Advanced experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud, particularly Customer Data Platforms (CDP), Journey Builder, and reporting features
  • Data Governance and Quality Management: Proven ability to implement and manage data governance frameworks, ensure data quality, and conduct data audits.
  • Data Integration: Experience with data integration processes (ETL) across multiple platforms and managing external data sources
  • Data Visualization: Proficiency in creating data quality dashboards and reports using Tableau, Power BI, or Salesforce native tools.
  • Advanced Excel Skills; Expertise in using Excel for data analysis, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data validation.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on maintaining data accuracy and integrity
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate data governance needs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on improving data processes and ensuring governance compliance. 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field. Salesforce certifications (Sales Cloud, Marketing Cloud) are highly desirable
  • 3-5 Years of experience in data governance, data quality management, or CRM management with specific expertise in Salesforce Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud
