Job Details

Cencora (formerly known as AmerisourceBergen) is seeking a qualified Full-Time Pharmacist for an open-door, outpatient Retail Pharmacy servicing primarily patients and employees of Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD), as well as the surrounding community.

Hours:

Position will be scheduled for a minimum of 30 hours weekly, or more depending on business needs and shift availability. This position will typically be scheduled for Every Other Weekend (Saturday & Sunday) from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and as such interested candidates should be sure to have availability to support that necessary shift rotation. Weekday shifts will be scheduled during operating hours of 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The pharmacy is CLOSED on major holidays.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for the evaluating preparing and dispensing of medications; verifies prescribed medications according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements.

2. Ensures and behaves with a focus on excellent customer service and clinical care.
3. Consults with patients regarding individual medications or supplies prescribed, including dosage, frequency, specialized requirements and possible drug interactions.
4. Interacts closely with individual patients in order to answer all questions and/or concerns regarding their medication therapy.
5. Reviews and evaluates patient's plan of care for therapeutic appropriateness.
6. Assists in the fiscal management of the ambulatory pharmacy to optimize profits and control expenses for the ambulatory pharmacy.
7. Monitors the overall performance of all ambulatory pharmacy staff members to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies, practices and approved pharmaceutical dispensing processes.

8. Assists in maintaining and executing all established procedures concerning quality improvement, quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and record keeping.
9. Submits, reviews, and handles all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriateness of reimbursement, co-pay and related financials

10. Makes recommendations to the managers regarding any changes to improve operating procedures, or to improve and facilitate patient care.
11. Performs prescription verification of all prescriptions and provides technical guidance to pharmacy technicians.
12. Promptly and appropriately responds to patient inquiries, requests and issues when situations are escalated to a higher level of authority. Follows through on closing any outstanding patient concerns to provide a superior level of customer care.
13. Provides consultation on pharmacy and therapeutic matters to various levels of organizational personnel.
14. Supervises activities relative to patient profiles and contacts, ensuring that they are updated as needed for insurance verification and regulatory compliance.
15. Works collaboratively with organizational personnel on quality, satisfaction, service excellence, clinical care, etc. as needed.

16. Complete required compounding training and perform basic non-sterile compounding for a limited formulary of oral products.

17. Assist with compliance with applicable USP standards including <795> and/or <800>

22. Operate with focus on excellent customer service and clinical care.

23. Assist with the Front End/OTC area, including stocking/replenishment, regular maintenance, and responding to customer/facility requests for special order OTC items.

24. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education:

Normally requires Bachelors of Science Degree or Pharm D degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy a Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy; current, unrestricted pharmacist license through the appropriate state board of pharmacy. Also requires broad training and/or experience in the fields of business administration, sales, marketing, information technology and retail/ambulatory pharmacy. Normally requires zero (1) to three (3) years of directly related and progressively responsible retail/ambulatory care pharmacy experience.

The following additional skills would be valuable to have but candidates who are eager to learn new experiences and may not have had exposure to these areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Experience with the Federal 340B Drug Pricing Program highly desirable but not required

  • Experience working with a pediatric patient population highly desirable but not required

  • Experience with non-sterile hazardous and non-hazardous compounding highly desirable but not required

  • Experience with pharmacy accreditation standards (URAC/ACHC) nice to have but not required
