Purpose and Job Summary:
Reporting to a Deputy Chief Underwriter, the Director is responsible for reviewing, inspecting, and underwriting multifamily agency loan applications, primarily for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae conventional loan programs. The Director will make informed recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer as well as provide guidance and assistance on agency loan assumptions, as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares loan analyses and narratives consistent with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac requirements.
- Summarizes historical property operations.
- Performs credit and financial analysis of key sponsors.
- Reviews and approves third party reports including property appraisals, physical needs assessments, environmental reports, and zoning reports.
- Considerable travel involved to perform property inspections and market evaluations.

- Other projects and duties as assigned.

- Mentors junior underwriters and underwriting analysts
- Expected to underwrite more complex and nuanced transactions
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Real Estate, or other related fields from an accredited college/university.
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in multifamily agency underwriting experience.
- Preferably two – three years of recent experience with Freddie Mac CME underwriting submissions.
- Through knowledge and understanding of Fannie Mae DUS and Freddie Mac CME multifamily loan programs and underwriting requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and list other relevant systems or software
- Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize assignments and to meet critical and established deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and to use discretion in the performance of daily activities
- Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a high-performance team
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines and constant interruptions. Ability to adjust priorities in a changing environment
Preferred:
- Ability to interact and effectively communicate with internal and external customers, including loan analysts, senior management, borrowers, and vendors.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex legal documents and financial statements.
- Highly analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes.
