We are looking for a hands-on Book Designer to join our evolving Illustrated and Gift print publishing team. You will design and art direct books and print products, and help to ensure the Illustrated and Gift list is dynamic, distinctive, and on-brand with Lonely Planet. You’re a creative thinker, have a passion for beautifully designed books, and know how to marry inspirational content with functional information design to bring excitement to and expand upon our travel-inspired nonfiction trade list.
What You'll Do:
- Collaborate with our print publishing team to create best-in-class book designs that inspire, guide, and excite travel lovers of all kinds from around the world.
- Present and share work with cross-functional teams while clearly communicating design rationale rooted in an understanding of the target audience.
- Expand our current design style by creating unique designs specifically catered to the category, content, and consumer of each product, and according to design trends.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience in illustrated and nonfiction trade book design and paper product design, as demonstrated in a portfolio of your work. Your portfolio should convey your ability to design for a variety of target audiences.
- Thorough understanding of print production and experience preparing design files and assets for print.
- Deep knowledge of Adobe InDesign best practices including fluency with type styles, parent pages, management of links, and importing coded manuscripts.
- Experience in stock imagery sourcing and ability to select images that are creative, accurate, and on-brand.
- Ability to analyze and interpret market trends and other external sources to identify design and product opportunities.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects, set expectations and work individually and/or collaboratively across teams.
- Experience in art directing freelance designers and illustrators, and ideally your own network of freelancers to tap into.
- A love for what you do and the ability to have fun and bring a positive attitude to a team of hardworking people.
- Passion for travel.
Compensation
- New York City Compensation Range: $81,250 - 118,000
*Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
