Overview:

The GitHub Trust & Safety team is looking for a full-time team member based in the UK. 

 

Trust & Safety is a distributed team whose overall mission is to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and productive environment for GitHub and npm's diverse community of users. The Trust & Safety team investigates reports of abuse, processes content removal requests, and works closely with other internal teams to help develop and maintain GitHub’s user-facing site policies and internal policies and procedures related to user-generated content moderation.

 

This role may require working one weekend day a week and may include non-standard working hours, including holidays. This role may require reviewing content that may be graphic, violent, sexual, or otherwise distressing.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Investigate and respond to reports of malicious code on GitHub.com and npm, including malware, cryptocurrency abuse, and phishing

  • Capably and consistently maintain multiple task queues covering different fields of knowledge

  • Organise and triage the team’s ticket queue periodically on a daily basis

  • Catalog workflow, log noteworthy events, and apply data to improve procedures

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with, studying, or researching cybersecurity, malicious code, malware, etc.

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate technical written answers to non-technical users.

  • Experience following detailed operational procedures that include multiple technical tools, decision points, and stakeholders. Basic understanding of Javascript, Python, and/or Java

  • Experience conducting investigations with limited information, including producing concise analysis and making a decisions inline with provided guidance 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using GitHub, git, or other version control systems

  • Experience working in a Technical Support role

  • Experience working in  Trust & Safety  at a user generated content platform

  • Experience and desire to work remotely
