Part-time Financial Controller, UK remote
About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller with a strong sector experience in Construction to work with our construction-based clients.
The initial engagement is with a client approx. £5m turnover. They have the accounting fundamentals in place and a small finance team.
They have recently implemented a project costing and management system that bolts into the accounting system – this needs some work to reconcile the two systems and establish, firstly, the current project profitability and revenue and profit recognition in the P&L and then operate the WIP calculations and project reporting on an ongoing basis.
The role also requires the FC to build and then produce monthly management reports for the board, cashflow forecasts, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, forecasts and supporting the CFO with budgets and year end.
This role is part-time and ideal for a self-employed professional with flexible availability. The role will require 2-3 days a week for the first month, reducing to 1 day a week after the initial project has been completed. This role is fully remote, and the candidate should be UK-based.
About You:
You are a qualified Financial Controller with at least five years of experience working in UK SMEs and with at least 3 years’ recent experience in the construction industry. Ideally, you are self-employed and available to work at least two days a week, with some flexibility for the first month or so.
Your skillset includes:
· Project Accounting and Profitability: Ability to analyse and report on project profitability and calculate work in progress and profit recognition as well as forecast project cashflows.
· CIS management: Including payment deductions, monthly filing and subcontractor management
· Technical Expertise: Proficient with Xero, as well as an advanced user of Excel (pivots, sumifs, vlookups). Experience in Sage Construction Manager or similar is useful.
· Commercial Insight: Skilled in implementing effective financial controls, cashflow, and profit forecasting, and able to present data clearly to non-financial leaders.
· Industry Experience: Background in construction finance is essential to understand unique requirements in project accounting.
Additional Details:
· Flexible Schedule: 2-3 days per week, reducing to 1 day a week after the first month, self-employed basis, allowing for complementary client work.
· Rate: £35 per hour.
