We are looking for a dynamic and experienced digital marketing leader -- VP of Marketing, reporting directly to our CEO and sitting on our executive team to help position our agency for our next stage of growth. Our VP of Marketing will lead a high-caliber team of six dedicated marketing professionals in the US and Canada and fractional access to the broader agency team which includes our globally recognized client delivery teams across marketing strategy, creative, web development, technical services, public relations, and revenue operations.

To be successful, your toolbox will be broad with demonstrated experience in strategies outside of inbound marketing. 

We seek an innovative, results-driven leader who is strategic, creative, and who will inspire other marketers in our organization with their innovative thinking and eagerness to “roll up their sleeves” and collaborate in a hands-on environment. Our next VP of Marketing will take our business to a new level regarding pipeline contribution, sales enablement, brand, and revenue growth. You are a driven professional who enjoys a dynamic and highly creative environment and is inspired by our take-no-prisoners approach to market growth.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Goal Achievement: Meet and exceed marketing’s KPIs aligned with achieving SmartBug’s financial and market goals. These KPIs will serve as your North Star and drive your team's and activities' direction. They will also be the basis for measuring your performance, and you will be responsible for achieving ROI from your program and staff.\

  • Messaging / Branding / Positioning: SmartBug occupies a unique position in the market, and you will own the company’s positioning, branding, and messaging for the website and other public-facing channels. 

  • Strategic Planning: You will be responsible for creating and executing SmartBug’s strategic marketing plan, which includes demand gen programs, partner marketing, staff, paid and earned media, martech, and the budgets that drive these investments. You will own both near- and long-term strategies.

  • Multichannel Campaigns: You are responsible for launching and successfully executing multichannel audience-specific campaigns that increase marketing-generated pipeline. You should be skilled at using multiple strategies, tactics, and mediums to execute these campaigns, and you need to measure and demonstrate their effectiveness.

  • Sales Enablement & Alignment: You will own the sales enablement library and work with sales to identify and provide the sales tools necessary to properly position SmartBug, its people, products, and services to the market.  You’ll drive alignment between marketing and sales to ensure consistent messaging, streamline handoffs, and maximize impact throughout the sales cycle.

  • Social Media Strategy: You already have an active presence on LinkedIn and other social channels, with experience building and engaging organic audiences for both the company and key team members. You’ll drive a strategy that amplifies our brand’s visibility, executive presence, and thought leadership across social media platforms.

  • Co-Marketing Partnerships: SmartBug enjoys the partnership of many tier-1 partners. You will be responsible for acquiring and growing these partnerships to provide positive ROI to our investments. We prefer to go deep with fewer partners rather than have a wall of logos without a relationship. You should have a strong ability to comprehend HubSpot's product releases and assess their impact on our business in order to market them. This role requires you to monitor, analyze, and interpret updates from our partners, translating technical details into actionable marketing insights.

  • Product Marketing: You will lead the marketing, demand gen, and PR function of SmartBug’s product launch team. This team is a team of functional leaders ensuring the company’s successful development of new technical products. 

  • Customer Marketing: You bring proven experience in executing customer marketing strategies that drive cross-sell and upsell opportunities across an established client base of 200+ clients. You’ll own the development and creation of social proof, such as case studies, testimonials, and success stories, to showcase our clients’ achievements and reinforce SmartBug’s value. Through targeted campaigns, you will foster deeper client relationships, increase engagement, and unlock additional revenue potential, positioning SmartBug as an indispensable partner.

  • AI-Driven Efficiency & Innovation: You have hands-on experience leveraging AI to enhance campaign deployment, streamline processes, and drive creativity within a marketing team. Ideally, you’ve built or experimented with custom AI agents or GPTs to optimize workflows, boost efficiency, and support creative initiatives. Your approach to AI will focus on practical applications that elevate team performance and foster innovation across campaigns and operations.

  • Team Management & Mentoring: As the department leader, you are crucial in managing, developing, and mentoring your direct team. As part of our Healthy SmartBug Mentor Program, you will also be required to mentor one or more SmartBugs outside of your department formally. Your goal is to build an entrepreneurial and accountable team of experts to move the company forward. 

  • Market Research: Your team will own the company's market research function. You will be responsible for digesting and
  • synthesizing competitive and market research into monthly reports for our executive staff and board. This includes partnering with Client Services and Sales to master the voice of the customer. 

  • Reporting: In this role, you will need to report on Marketing’s goal attainment to the CEO, executive team, and the board of directors during board meetings.

  •  US/Canada: SmartBug has more than 250 people in the US and Canada and operates as a single, united company. You will ensure that marketing strategies and tactics are localized appropriately and that region-specific marketing programs are deployed as needed. 

  • Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in digital marketing; 5+ years leading a team; must have experience leading and supervising team members at the director and/or senior manager level.
  • Agency or professional services experience required.
  • Hands-on experience with industry-leading marketing and CRM platforms (deep expertise with HubSpot Marketing and Sales enterprise is a key differentiator).
  • Extraordinarily tech-savvy with a deep interest in MarTech solutions prevalent in our space and a natural aptitude for implementing and leveraging cutting-edge technologies.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and coach a team to do the same.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing marketing strategies and demand-generation programs that have consistently contributed to meeting/exceeding revenue targets. 
  • Ability to manage relationships with other VPs, as well as CRO, CFO and CEO; will also include some interaction with members of the Board.
  • Strong background in digital marketing with a deep understanding of B2B marketing and sales practices.
  • Experience leading new business initiatives cross-functionally and presenting and selling ideas to varied audiences throughout the organization.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and influence, within and outside areas of control.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; capable of presenting to diverse audiences with ease with recent experience presenting publically either virtually or in-person.
