The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic Antenna designer. Whether you're at the beginning of your career or have a wealth of experience, we have a place for you at Leonardo.

You will help us deliver the innovative Antenna Structures that forms part of our self-protection systems installed on fast jet, UAV, land and naval platforms. Depending on the role you take, you may be able to carry out some of your work from home (Custom or Hybrid working)

What you will do

As an Antenna engineer you will work with the support of experts in their field, using our super-computing facilities and 3D EM modelling skills to design innovative antennas.

You will learn how to assess your work in anechoic test chambers and laboratories to develop robust designs that will function reliably in harsh environments to enable decades of use.

Your designs will form key parts in high performance EW systems to meet challenging customer requirements. This role may even take you across the UK or abroad for technical reviews.

What we need from you

What you really must have:

  • EM simulation (CST Microwave Studio, FEKO, HFSS) to analyse and optimise a design,

  • Use of model driven engineering using MATLAB and Simulink tools,

  • Theoretical or practical knowledge of antenna measurements using standard equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyser, etc.) within a range

  • Derivation of detailed design requirements and architecture from system requirements

  • A structured approach to Antenna design

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Working in mixed discipline teams

It would be nice if you had:

  • Experience within the defence industry

  • Your skills might span decades or just a few years

  • You might have an HNC/HND or Undergraduate Degree (Electronic Eng., Physics, Applied Physics or Mathematics) or you may just have lots of skills and experience gained through your hard work.

  • You may have taken a career break away from Science, Technology and Engineering.

  • Design and development of antennas & radomes for function and RCS, frequency selective components, and their electrical, mechanical and functional interfaces,
