As a Senior Principal Engineer in Airworthiness within our Office of Independent Airworthiness (OIAW), you will be instrumental in guaranteeing airworthiness certification across a variety of air vehicle platforms. This role is primarily remote, but candidates based near San Diego, CA, are preferred for occasional in-person collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead comprehensive technical airworthiness planning and validation, which includes the formulation and negotiation of airworthiness plans, certification bases, compliance methods, and various other certification tasks for sophisticated systems.
  • Partner with fellow airworthiness engineers and internal engineering teams to supervise the complete lifecycle encompassing design, construction, testing, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Execute functional and process analyses, along with requirements distribution to convert customer specifications into actionable criteria and derived requirements.
  • Oversee and sustain airworthiness documentation to support Military Flight Releases and ongoing airworthiness efforts as part of the specialized airworthiness team.
  • Excel in a dynamic environment, managing varied projects while fostering collaboration across all organizational tiers.

Required Skills

  • Proficient understanding of MIL-HDBK-516B and -516C.
  • Established track record in crafting airworthiness plans and certification bases.
  • Experience with domestic and international UAS/RPAS airworthiness certifications and type authorizations.
  • Strong capability to manage airworthiness evidence and facilitate Military Flight Releases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with at least 9 years of pertinent experience, a Master's degree with 7 years, or a PhD with a minimum of 4 years.
  • Capacity to obtain and uphold a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
