Terms of Reference: Part-Time Writer/Editor

Development Gateway: An IREX Venture (DG) is an international non-profit organization with team members based in more than 10 countries worldwide. For over 20 years, DG has researched data ecosystems, built digital tools to support those data ecosystems, and advised on data strategy and digital transformation to strengthen decision-making, transparency, and service delivery. We support a variety of partners in over seventy countries around the globe to better collect, analyze, visualize, and use data by building digital tools, creating strong incentive structures and processes, and providing training and support.

This position is a consultancy with flexible hours. We anticipate needing up to 20 hours per week.

Scope of Work and Requirements:

The Part-Time Writer/Editor will help expand the visibility of DG’s work in the international development space and at subnational and national levels in our target countries. You will be the primary editor for DG’s web and blog content. Contribute to DG’s messaging, lead editorial, and support internal relationships within the organization.

The Work You Get to Do

  • Lead editor for all DG’s web content, blog content, two-pagers, and external publication, maintaining DG’s distinctive voice and style
  • Create and ideate blogs, videos, and external communications in consultation and partnership with program managers and executive leadership
  • Work with executive leadership to regularly produce thought leadership pieces for DG’s blog
  • Work with program and project managers to identify opportunities for storytelling
  • Contribute to social media messaging in support of our broader communications goals, including independently developing posts
  • Foster internal learning by coordinating the internal newsletter and support program teams with external newsletters

Core qualifications include:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience producing a variety of written content for nonprofit organizations or nongovernmental organizations, such as executive summaries or reports and studies, and blog posts to demonstrate thought leadership
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience producing written content for media and news outlets, such as op-eds and blog posts
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in editing and proofreading complex content, such as articles, blogs and reports, that required following organization and Associated Press (AP) style guidelines

Payment:

The expected pay of this consultancy is between $25 and $35 per hour based on experience and location.

The Consultant is responsible for sending in actual hours worked in a given month by the 5th working day of the following month. An invoice template will be provided to the Consultant to facilitate ease of tracking hours.
