Internship Overview:

We are offering a credit-based internship opportunity for a remote or in person editorial intern for the summer season to work closely with the adult editorial group on our list of illustrated and narrative books in a variety of categories including food and drink, fashion, photography, interior design, humor, pop culture, entertainment, sports, history, current affairs, memoir, literary and commercial fiction, and many others. The editorial intern will work primarily with the editorial staff, but may also interact with the sales, marketing, publicity, design, managing editorial, and production departments. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone with an interest in the acquisition and editing of books and offers a broad introduction to the world of publishing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the acquisition process by conducting marketplace research
  • Taking minutes at weekly editorial video meetings (must be available on Tuesday mornings)
  • Reviewing passes of upcoming titles and proofreading materials, following style guides as directed
  • Reading and evaluating both fiction and nonfiction submissions and writing reader’s reports
  • Updating metadata in our title database
  • Providing general editorial support for the team

 

Qualifications:

  • Individuals should be proficient in Word and Excel and have excellent internet research skills, with a demonstrated interest in developing their editorial skills and learning about the publishing process. 
  • They should have an interest in the arts, trending culture, and visual and narrative publishing. 
  • Strong analytical thinking, reading, and writing skills are essential, as is the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously: to meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, and to follow through consistently. 
  • A reading proficiency in a second language is a plus, but not required. 
  • As this is either a partially or fully remote position, a reliable internet connection is required as well as the ability to join video meetings on Microsoft Teams.
