Job description

THE ROLE
Your role stands at the intersection of communications and the fight to change the odds for historically underserved children and families. As a key member of Stand’s Arizona team at a moment of tremendous need and opportunity, you will deepen our impact by working closely with the Arizona Executive Director and members of the National Marketing & Communications team to execute Stand’s outreach and engagement tactics through consistent creation of high-quality content to reach our target audiences.

This position is based in the Phoenix, AZ area and will require in-person availability for in-person activities such as events and meetings while primarily working remotely.


THE ORGANIZATION
Stand for Children is a unique catalyst for education equity and racial justice, to create a brighter future for us all.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media Management and Content Creator
  • Create and post timely, layered, high-quality content for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube.
    • Content includes issue advocacy, elections, and fundraising.
    • Posts include public asks to take action.
    • The expectation is at least 1 post per day on each platform.
    • This includes photo/video sourcing, graphic design, copywriting, and video creation/editing.
    • This includes reporting data on organic social media performance.
  • Create landing pages for social media on Stand AZ’s website and EveryAction that drive engagement to contact policymakers, vote, get involved, donate, etc.
  • Create graphics/print materials for advertising, newspapers, mailers, door hangers, etc.
    • This includes photo sourcing, graphic design and creation, and copywriting.
  • Pitch new ideas for content, including visuals, graphics, and video for use on digital platforms based on the latest trends, data, and audience-led research.
  • Build the digital profile of Stand for Children Arizona as a leading voice in education and youth justice advocacy.
  • Maintain and strategically expand on the organizational brand and voice through intentionally created and professionally executed content and communication.
Advocacy and Audience Systems
  • Create content for and execute sophisticated email outreach campaigns that includes email sending, form creation, data reports, and audience targeting.
  • Manage input and maintenance of audience data within the Consumer Management System, EveryAction.
    • Create and manage audience segments using data hygiene practices.
Public Relations
  • Build and leverage public relations and earned media opportunities.
  • Assist the Executive Director in maintaining media relationships and generating media placement opportunities, including support logistics of earned media scheduling, execution, and reporting.
  • Write compelling, accurate, and timely press releases.
  • Track Stand's local and state media coverage as well as news about policy initiatives that are important and influential to Stand positions.
  • Track general education coverage (and reporter social media chatter) to share out reporter and outlet interest on various aspects of the debate.
  • Cultivate and maintain media contacts for disseminating press releases, and gaining earned media.
    • Includes maintaining a database of media contacts for disseminating press releases in addition to elected officials, community/regional/statewide leaders, and subject matter experts who comprise Stand’s target audiences and/or who may be allies of Stand on specific policy endeavors.
  • Create compelling content for digital donor communications – emailed newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, and “one-pagers” that clearly explain our work in creative, engaging ways in coordination with the Executive Director, State Operations and Development Coordinator, and the National Development Director.
  • Create and edit a range of organizational materials to ensure clarity and effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Passionate commitment to Stand for Children’s mission.
  • Two to five years’ experience creating social media content and managing social media platforms.
  • At least one year of experience in communications and/or marketing such as digital strategies, cause marketing, or journalism. Experience in political campaigns, or issue advocacy is a plus.
  • At least one year of experience with email and advocacy systems.
  • At least one year of experience with website editing; WordPress is a plus.
  • Outstanding and fast writing and editing skills - skilled at developing straightforward, clear, and persuasive content.
  • Highly creative, especially regarding digital community building and communication.
  • Experience with Customer Management Systems, like EveryAction is a plus.
  • Experience with Canva, CapCut, or similar Asana, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Hands-on understanding and ability to manage and make recommendations on Stand’s digital channels.
  • Collaborative, learning-oriented team player.
  • Ability to identify and coordinate with Stand leadership in the event of a crisis communications situation.
  • Excellent planning and organizational ability, exceptional attention to detail, high sense of urgency, and flexibility with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to rapidly learn about public education issues and other related political advocacy issues, when necessary.
  • Basic understanding of how state government works.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret performance analytics for all communication channels.
  • Ability to manage time well by working from home and using digital meeting tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of public education issues and/or experience creating political advocacy campaigns is a plus.
  • Familiarity with state political and legislative environment and context is a plus.
  • Spanish fluency and experience with Spanish-language translation is a plus.
  • Existing relationships with local press and media are a plus.
  • Ability to be stationary for extended periods of time and ability to travel to meetings; May require the ability to climb stairs.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $59,407-$74,259 commensurate with experience. Generous benefits.
