Job Summary

The Supply Chain Traceability Director leads Textile Exchange’s standards systems for chain of custody and traceability of certified materials, reporting to the Senior Director of the Standards System department. The director has oversight of the supply chain traceability team, which is responsible for policies, systems, and resources that support chain of custody and traceability for certified materials in the supply chain; this includes responsibility for the technical content of the Content Claim Standard (CCS). This role includes accountability for strategic plan development and delivering against annual KPIs for related systems, personnel management, budget oversight, and reporting to Textile Exchange leadership. The Director will be part of the Scheme Management team that oversees the full standards system. This role will have strong cross functional duties within the organization, including key collaboration with all Standards System teams, as well as Data & Technology and Engagement & Partnerships.   

 

 We expect the first 90 days of this role will focus on relationship building, onboarding, and acclimation to general systems and teams at Textile Exchange. Within the first 30 days, we expect a review of current roles working on chain of custody and traceability functions in the organization, focusing on meeting staff and key relationship building, as well as beginning to meet key cross-functional collaboration teams.  This will lead into rapid integration into key projects – including but not limited to the revision of the Content Claim Standard (CCS) and analyses of key aspects of the transaction certificate and eTransaction processes.  Within the first 90 days, it is expected that this role will be integrated into these projects and begin to suggest process adaptations to ensure the efficiency of project and process delivery and communication between teams.    

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Team Management and Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Oversee the supply chain traceability team within the Standards System Department, including personnel management, workplan development and prioritization, budget inputs, and reporting on key performance indicators;   
  • Plan capacity and resourcing for growth and scale of traceability tools that support our standards system, such as the Trackit system, including optimal team structure planning;   
  • Guide the team internally and cross-functionally to connect inputs on different traceability tools to ensure a cohesive system;    
  • Work cross-functionally in the Standards System department to deliver credibility for traceability tools, both directly and via the Scheme Management team;   
  • Collaborate with Engagement and Partnerships teams to support external inquiries and ensure we are staying responsive to stakeholders impacted by our traceability systems;  
  • Collaborate with the Data & Technology department for the connectivity of systems and tools that are developed and managed for chain of custody and traceability.  

 

Chain of Custody Standards and Traceability System Management 

  • Oversee the Content Claim Standard (CCS) as well as chain of custody requirements that apply across standards and related policies, guidelines, and resources that support implementation of chain of custody/traceability criteria;  
  • Guide the supply chain team on responsibilities for policies and systems that uphold the integrity of certified material tracking, volumes, and final product claims, including key policies and systems for scope certificates and transaction certificates;  
  • Oversee the connectivity of interdependent systems, including the Trackit system, that relate to information that is tracked in the supply chain, including site identification, volume reconciliation, audit data, external verification system data, data relevant to government legislation, and outcome indicators;  
  • Review and support external opportunities to collaborate on traceability solutions for tracking information within our certified supply chains, including how we will capture other verification system data applicable to CCS-certified sites;  
  • Provide input on the alignment of our traceability tools with government policy and regulations.  

 

Strategic 

  • Provide strategic oversight for implementation of Textile Exchange’s interdependent traceability tools within the standards system with an eye for keeping these areas fit for purpose in the future;   
  • Analyze unique processes within different sectors to keep our traceability systems adapting to be robust, relevant, and efficient for all users, including strategies for establishing opening volume balances, analyzing scope certificate, transaction certificate and eTransaction applicability for tier 4 organizations (raw material processing), as well as adaptations for brands, retailers, subcontractors;  
  • Provide content to support reporting to Senior Leadership and the Governance Board on traceability in standards;   
  • Continually research and implement improvements to the existing systems to respond to performance and capacity learnings as well as to keep pace with evolving technology;   
  • Represent Textile Exchange standards to the industry as needed.  

 

Minimum Requirements 

  • At least 10 years' experience in verification programs, at a standards body and/or certification body, or related entity. 
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing diverse teams; preference for international and remote management experience. 
  • Excellent English written and oral skills; preference for experience writing and development of sustainability standards policies and criteria. 
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills. 
  • Excellent computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to quickly learn new systems.   
  • A driven individual with a strong work ethic and a high degree of autonomy, self-starting and proactive.   
  • Highly attentive to detail with strong organizational and planning skills.   
  • Able to hit the ground running – you will need to have experience working in a fast-paced and demanding environment.   
  • Motivated, energetic, determined, and with strong interpersonal skills.   
  • Able to produce a high standard of work across all forms of media.   
  • Honest, professional, responsible, discreet, and able to act with the organization’s utmost confidence at all times.   
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones. 

 

Preferred Requirements 

  • Experience with the application of transaction certificate requirements that supplement chain of custody certification in a standards system. 
  • Prior engagement with an ISEAL Member standard or initiative. 
  • Awareness of government regulations that impact supply chains. 

 

Employment Package

  • Annual Salary Range: 128,000 – 160,000 USD
