A Brief Overview

The US LBM Buyer works with the Sr. Category Managers, Category Managers, and Sr. Buyers by placing purchase orders & internal transfers, conducting division/market/regional supply chain communications, aggregating spend data for supplier comparisons, identifying new suppliers, escalating payment terms concerns and problem-solving variance issues. The Buyer will also participate in program comparisons/requests for quotes.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for placing purchase orders for assigned product categories across US LBM Divisions, Markets, and Regions.
  • Works with Sr. Category Managers, Category Managers, and Sr. Buyers in daily functions, including demand planning, inventory-related issues, cost comparisons, invoice inventory discrepancies/variances, and maintains product costing.
  • Responsible for contacting suppliers regarding cost adjustments, incorrect material deliveries, potential short pay situations, AP variances, etc.
  • Participates in supplier negotiations and selection, annual product line reviews, transactional buying, and program negotiations.
  • Plays a role in communications with US LBM divisions related to products, inventory management, lead-time updates, and tracking of inbound inventory.
  • Update purchase order shipping status, monitor railcars or trucks to the destination and update pricing on weekly/monthly contracts (as applicable).
  • Responsible for building and maintaining strong supplier relationships and participating in supplier meetings.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Concentration in Supply Chain studies is also preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • 5 years of purchasing, inventory control/management, materials input, or warehousing experience. Required
  • Strong knowledge of the building material industry to support Supply Chain objectives.

Skills And Abilities

  • A high degree of interpersonal communication for negotiation.
  • Mastery of the tools needed to extract data, conduct RFPs, manage and replenish inventory.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems.
  • Knowledge and skill to organize, plan, manage, execute, and evaluate projects.
