Job Summary

In this role, you will conduct field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”.

Major Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Participates in the design, development and modification of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
  • Coordinates mechanical engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
  • Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
  • Provides technical assistance to other mechanical personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project mechanical requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Level 1: Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 7+Years of work experience.
  • Level 2: Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10+ Years of work experience.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent), with minimum 10 (ten) years of Packaged equipment experience.
  • In depth knowledge of equipment packages such as Chilled water systems comprising Chillers, Chilled water pumps with VFDs, Chilled water expansion tanks, Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers, Air Cooled Heat Exchangers; Water treatment packages; Condenser / Cooling Tower systems comprising condenser water pumps, sand filter skids and filter pumps; Heating water systems comprising hot water boiler and pumps; and other types of skid mounted pump and tank packages.
  • Applicant should be able to identify specific industry and technology experience.
  • Good working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, Section IV - Rules for Construction of Heating Boilers, Section VIII - Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels, ASME B31.3 Process Piping, API 617 P rocess Centrifugal Compressors, API 610 Centrifugal Pumps, API 660 Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers, API 661 Air Cooled Heat Exchangers, API 650 Storage Tanks, AWWA Water Tanks and NFPA.
  • Knowledge of systems, pipe sizing hydraulics and design calculations of major mechanical equipment, selection of rotating equipment (Compressors and Pumps), applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Good knowledge of Chilled water systems and other packaged equipment PFDs and P&IDs. Ability to support in-house drafting and checking of PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Proficient knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
  • Thorough understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and control methods.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication. Able to work in project groups with shared-work teams globally, to progress project designs.
  • Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
  • Experience in writing equipment design specifications.
  • Experience of mentoring junior mechanical engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
  • A professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board preferred.
  • Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision on a medium or major size project.
  • Experience with field installation / commissioning activities for Packaged equipment.
  • Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.
  • Participated and contributed to code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).
  • Experience in supporting project reviews and closure of associated actions: PFDs, P&IDs, HAZiDs, JHAs, ENVIDs, HAZOPs and 3D model reviews.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
