Senior Full-Stack Engineer, Payments

This position is open to candidates in the SF/Bay Area and requires 4 days per week  in our San Francisco Based Office

Overview

Wonderschool is harnessing the power of technology to provide comprehensive support to child care providers operating out of their homes as well as in the government and non-profit sectors. Our products enable child care providers to create high-quality environments and meet the demands of their business, while also helping parents in need of childcare solutions through the creation of an accessible marketplace.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer to join our team with a focus on building our backend payments systems. You are a versatile technologist capable of managing and executing a broad spectrum of engineering tasks, critical to scaling backend systems. You will play a crucial role in achieving our team’s core mission, to develop Your expertise in the delivery of high-quality software will be essential in securing and simplifying the financial workflows for Child Care Providers across the Wonderschool platform as we continue to scale.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain systems and processes that ensure high levels of reliability, security, and interoperability across the Wonderschool platform.
• Leverage extensive experience with Full-Stack development with a focus on backend systems to design and build out the Wonderschool Payments Platform with reliability, stability, and efficiency.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including; product managers, designers, and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and project timelines.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, working closely with the team to identify and implement simple and effective solutions
• Deliver high-quality, performant code and deploying services with a high level of comfort iterating on a system while it is constantly serving traffic
• Communicate technical design effectively with developers of all levels
• Add value to our engineering culture by soliciting feedback from your peers, including other engineers and teammates in your product team, and support your team through thoughtful feedback.
• Continually improve our engineering standards in code reviews, advocating for better patterns and technologies, and making a meaningful impact on our development experience and tooling.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus in developing full stack applications and familiarity with a wide range of technologies and programming concepts. 
• Prior experience and expertise working with payment systems and payment gateways, especially familiarity with Stripe or other similar payment processing platforms.
• Proven experience working on highly complex high-trafficked web applications and APIs, with a focus on observability, performance monitoring, logging, and alerting
• Overall understanding of serverless computing and Platform as a Service providers such as Firebase
• Proficiency with NoSQL data engines like Firestore and SQL data engines like Postgres, with a focus on database design and optimization.
• Our tech stack includes: Typescript, NestJS, React, and Elixir/Phoenix, GCP
• We use GitHub Actions and Linear for project management and tracking progress
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering, or depth of practical experience.
• Previous experience with our current technology stack is not required but helpful.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with functional programming languages
• Previous experience supporting Highly Available services with 99.99% uptime or higher
• Previous experience in a startup environment or high-growth company.
• Previous experience in a partially remote team setup.

What We Offer

Wonderschool provides the wage ranges it reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for all remote roles and as otherwise required by applicable law. The expected range of starting pay for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 base salary. Actual compensation may vary within the listed range based on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, experience.
