Job Overview

We invite you to join an innovative leader in the renewable energy sector, dedicated to advancing utility-scale energy storage projects. In this remote role, you will take the helm in addressing legal matters associated with renewable energy origination, land acquisition, and development transactions. You will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including Project Development, Finance, EPC, O&M, and Transmission & Interconnection, ensuring a comprehensive legal framework for real estate and land development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, easements, and site control agreements for utility-scale renewable projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage across diverse regions.
  • Draft, modify, and negotiate a variety of legal land agreements related to renewable energy projects.
  • Collaborate with the Real Estate team to conduct title, survey, and mineral due diligence processes, ensuring thorough research of land use requirements.
  • Facilitate successful financial closures of renewable land development purchase and lease transactions.
  • Engage with both internal and external stakeholders, including outside counsel, to streamline the land acquisition process and enhance project financing efforts.

Required Skills

  • Expertise in lease negotiations, purchase agreements, easements, and site control agreements.
  • Proficiency in drafting and revising legal documents pertinent to renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of land title issues, mineral rights, and the permitting processes relevant to real estate acquisition strategies.
  • Solid experience in commercial real estate transactions and land negotiations.
  • Familiarity with the lifecycle of renewable energy projects, including interconnection, permitting, and PPA negotiations.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in large-scale infrastructure land development transactions; experience as a licensed attorney focusing on renewable energy initiatives is preferred.
  • Background in a reputable law firm is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting and reviewing real estate documentation, including purchase/sale agreements and lease terms.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
