Job description

Job Title: Staff Accountant - Real Estate (Remote)

Job Overview

We are looking for a meticulous and skilled Staff Accountant to become a vital member of our finance and accounting team. This position focuses on residential real estate accounting and operates in a collaborative space that prioritizes precision, efficiency, and ongoing enhancement of processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed reviews of monthly income statements and variance reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of audit documentation and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
  • Oversee general ledger management, including journal entry processing and sub-ledger reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy in cash transactions and prepare monthly reconciliations.
  • Track and analyze utility expenses, validate tenant billings, and collect lease data for property acquisitions and setup.
  • Support the audit process by providing necessary information and preparing relevant schedules/reports.
  • Analyze property-related transactions to confirm their accuracy and compliance.
  • Contribute to the refinement of accounting processes and reporting systems, as well as maintain standard operational procedures.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring proper amortization, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with our internal real estate team to present accurate accounting information.

Required Skills

  • Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with General Ledger/Property Management Software.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
  • Outstanding attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all financial activities.
  • Excellent time management skills, particularly under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is mandatory.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in residential real estate accounting is required, with a preference for those knowledgeable in GAAP accounting principles.
  • Experience with Propertyware is highly advantageous.
