Job description

Have you always been interested in how things actually work? Are you interested in compute infrastructure beyond using 3rd party cloud? This is a unique opportunity to work with a team in a company that operates in 3rd party cloud as well as owns its infrastructure with physical servers connected with hundreds of Gbps Internet capacity, owns and advertises its own IPv4 space, and has built its private cloud in multiple locations. Our environment features a hybrid of Linux and macOS, a state-of-the-art scheduling system, and seamless orchestration across both self-owned and 3rd party cloud providers. We have it all.

If you like to understand and work end-to-end, from redundant multi-homed wholesale internet transit, through data center-grade network management, through specially selected servers working directly with manufacturers, to optimizations of hardware and software, fine-tuning at the OS level, hypervisor level, scheduling, …, if the thought of LEDs and the smell of amps excites you, if you like to nerd out on graphs, understand patterns end-to-end, and continuously improve systems, then we have a place for you in our team and you will have a blast.

Our Build Infrastructure team manages the Bitrise CI/CD cloud build infrastructure, providing stable and reliable build environments. We oversee one of the world's largest Mac infrastructures, complemented by an extensive Linux Cloud infrastructure, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and high performance. We adhere to DevOps and Agile methodologies and are committed to automation.

We are seeking a Staff Infrastructure Engineer to not just design, build, scale, and maintain our infrastructure, but also to be an enabler across the department. Further, we are looking for someone who shares our mission and is eager to grow into a pivotal role through collaboration and hands-on work. Your expertise and experience will allow us to scale confidently and expertly, minimizing friction and avoiding pitfalls. This role offers significant opportunities to influence and guide technical practices, as well as lead projects and project teams to push forward our mission-driven objectives. If you're excited about a role in which you can gradually assume greater responsibility and explore career opportunities, we encourage you to read further and apply.

Salary range for this position is between gross 330,000 PLN and 550,000 PLN.

As a Staff Infrastructure Engineer at Bitrise, you will:

  • (Infrastructure Management and Strategy) Maintain, improve, and scale our existing infrastructure (both data center and cloud services) to meet growing demands.
  • (Cross-Platform Expertise) Oversee Mac-based and Linux-based build infrastructures alongside network infrastructure.
  • (Automation) Champion automation to enhance efficiency and minimize manual intervention.
  • (Performance Monitoring) Proactively monitor infrastructure performance and identify potential issues to prevent customer impact.
  • (Incident Management) Handle incidents effectively and conduct thorough post-mortems to prevent recurrence.
  • (Systematic Troubleshooting) Develop systematic procedures for troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • (Deployment Practices) Refine deployment practices to enhance quality and velocity.
  • (Independent Work and Collaborative Leadership) Exhibit the ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate across teams.
  • (Project Leadership) Thrive in leading projects and project teams to drive innovation and achieve our mission.
  • (Cross-Team Collaboration) Work closely with various teams within the company, representing them internally and externally.
  • (Knowledge Sharing) Document and share knowledge across the engineering department, promoting a culture of learning.
  • (Agile Methodology) Plan and execute work in an iterative, agile manner.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • (Extensive Experience) At least 7 years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer or in a similar engineering role.
  • (Networking Expertise) In-depth understanding of L2-L7 networking, networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP), and services (e.g., DNS, VPN). Experience with configuring firewalls, IPSec tunnels, routing, cloud networking, DHCP, etc.
  • (Linux Administration) Proficient in Linux administration, including scripting (Bash, Python).
  • (Infrastructure as Code) Proven experience in defining and deploying infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible.
  • (CI/CD Systems) Proficient in setting up and leveraging Continuous Integration systems for process automation.
  • (Cloud Platforms) Proficient with Google Cloud or other cloud service platforms.
  • (Monitoring Tools) Skilled in configuring and utilizing system monitoring tools.
  • (Source Code Management) Expert in managing source code with Git.
  • (Advanced Communication Skills) Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in an international, agile-focused team environment.
  • (Influence and Guidance) Experienced in shaping and guiding technical practices within teams.
  • (Mission-Driven) A strong belief in our mission and a commitment to driving it forward, not just seeking a job for the sake of it.

What Would Really Knock Our Socks Off:

  • Experience with macOS administration.
  • Background in infrastructure/network testing.
  • Experience with data centers.
  • Knowledge of complex VPN configurations.
  • Knowledge and experience with EVPN VXLAN.
  • Experience with Go development.
