About the role:

The Senior Manager, Portfolio Transitions Operations, is responsible for the successful transition of journals into and out of the Research Publishing portfolio/organization, including due diligence and reporting. The leader in this role will oversee all transition and transformation processes and facilitate active engagement between colleagues in key roles across the organization and with external stakeholders in all regions, including publishing partners and industry organizations.

How you will make an impact:

  • Engages with the major business issues in the Research organization, following and adjusting to our evolving strategy. Pays attention to issues affecting the transfer of business between publishers, including financial due diligence.
  • Designs, builds, and maintains a rigorous business transition workflow and set of practices that ensure the successful integration/exit of journal titles. Collaborates with senior colleagues across the business to pool knowledge and resources and ensure PSolP has awareness of all bid, renewals and launch pipelines. Engages actively and effectively with colleagues across locations and time zones, communicating the strategy for effective transitions and holding people to account for their role in the process.
  • Manages data and communications surrounding takeovers. Drafts internal and external workflows, policies, reports. Collaborates with the Senior Director of Publishing Operations to ensure clear messaging and excellent operational details.
  • Acts as a senior manager in Publishing Operations. Provides guidance and mentorship to more junior colleagues in the team. Ensures development of team and delegates responsibilities appropriately.

What we are looking for:

  • Seven-plus years’ experience in scholarly publishing or the equivalent level of experience in another industry
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the journals publishing ecosystem, including operational and communications issues; ability to convert strategy into action
  • Ability to interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve processes and solutions; experience with MS 365 suite, including PowerBI
  • Ability to influence colleagues at all levels of the organization, with or without direct authority; proactive, independent decision-making
  • Effective leadership, communications and management skills to drive individuals and teams forward; experience in developing partnerships/alliances within and outside the organization; ability to manage in different time zones.
  • Excellent English-language skills
