Job Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Coder to join our dynamic team in a remote capacity. In this essential role, you will be instrumental in converting provider services into accurate billable codes based on comprehensive medical documentation. You will strictly adhere to the coding standards established by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and National Alliance of Medical Auditing Specialists (NAMAS), along with payer coverage guidelines. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring the accuracy of charge postings and facilitating collaboration with providers and staff to resolve inquiries regarding medical necessity, documentation completeness, and coding precision.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately convert provider services into billable codes (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) from medical documentation, ensuring compliance with AAPC, AHIMA, NAMAS, and payer standards.
• Efficiently post and reconcile hospital setting (IP/OP/OBS) charges on a daily basis.
• Communicate effectively with the coding supervisor to address coding discrepancies, such as issues related to medical necessity, unspecified codes, incomplete documentation, and trends in incorrect coding.
• Utilize coding and payer resources to guarantee precision in coding and billing processes.
• Support the Accounts Receivable Specialist in managing complex coding denials, including the preparation of appeal letters and gathering necessary supporting documentation.
• Participate in continuous education related to coding and billing utilizing resources such as Encoder Pro and other provided subscriptions.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned to further the team’s objectives.
  
  

Required Skills

• Proficient in coding services (CPT, HCPCS, & ICD-10) in accordance with standards set by AAPC, AHIMA, and NAMAS.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages is advantageous.
• Strong customer service abilities and professional phone etiquette.
• Capability to maintain confidentiality while meeting productivity standards.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume workload and prioritize effectively.
• Independent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to obtaining necessary information.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and/or coding is essential.
• Certification in Medical Billing and Coding is highly desirable.
