Job Overview

As a Math Tutoring Center Project Specialist, you will be instrumental in enhancing the mathematical skills of students and fostering a collaborative relationship with faculty in the Mathematics Department. This remote, full-time position entails the coordination and oversight of instructional assistants, peer tutors, and temporary staff within the Math Center, as well as addressing computational mathematics software concerns in our computer labs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all daily operations of the Math Center to create a conducive learning environment.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule instructional assistants and tutors to deliver individualized support across various formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid.
  • Conduct assessments to identify student learning gaps and formulate personalized learning plans accordingly.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with students and faculty, delivering exceptional guidance and support.
  • Collaborate with the Director to monitor and enhance the performance metrics of the Math Center, focusing on student success and retention rates in mathematics courses.
  • Develop proficiency in utilizing digital educational resources and processes to foster effective learning experiences.
  • Oversee the administration of tutoring services, ensuring support is accessible through remote, online, and on-campus means.
  • Provide academic coaching to assist students in setting and achieving their academic goals, alongside improving study habits.
  • Collaborate with the Director to craft informative materials and marketing strategies that promote tutoring services to both students and faculty.
  • Partner with the Director and Institutional Research to assess academic progress and report on success metrics related to mathematics courses.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings, department gatherings, and serve on assigned committees.

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a Bachelor's degree in these fields paired with a Master's in Statistics, Physics, or Mathematics Education, or a similar qualification.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical concepts, from introductory mathematics to differential equations, including geometry and statistics.
  • Familiarity with effective teaching methodologies and microcomputer applications associated with mathematics education.
  • Commitment to understanding the diverse academic and cultural backgrounds of students.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for mathematics and dedication to student success.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Prior management or leadership experience is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with mathematics software packages is preferred, along with a strong openness to learning new technologies.
