Job Overview

We invite you to explore an exceptional opportunity for the role of Principal Engineer, functioning in a remote capacity to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). This pivotal position encompasses collaboration with both the Integrated Combat Systems Department and the Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department, alongside various other stakeholders within NSWCDD and its affiliated organizations. As a Principal Engineer, you will serve as an indispensable resource, frequently recognized as a Subject Matter Expert within your domain on a consultative basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver senior-level systems engineering and analytical support to multiple clients within NSWCDD, including potential collaborations with NAVSEA, NAVAIR, ONR, and various Navy Program Executive Offices (PEOs).
  • Assess and recommend solutions regarding technical issues related to combat systems integration, participating in red teams and failure review boards as necessary.
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance to NSWCDD program managers on product and task specifications, product evaluations, and tracking of project tasks.
  • Contribute engineering expertise to conceptual studies, Analyses of Alternatives (AoAs), and other significant analytical endeavors.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 25-30 years of experience in US Navy surface warfare, either as a senior enlisted member or officer, with exposure to vessels such as carriers, DDGs, CGs, LCS, or land-based test facilities.
  • Specialized knowledge in Aegis Combat and Weapon Systems, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD), Ship Self Defense System (SSDS), Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD), and other relevant programs is crucial.
  • Proficient in advanced writing and verbal communication skills.
  • At least two years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proven capability to interface effectively at the flag/O-6 level.

Qualifications

  • A formal education in systems engineering or software engineering is desirable, although substantial analytical experience may suffice for certain roles.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
