Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join our dynamic team in a fully remote capacity. This pivotal role focuses on the seamless onboarding of multifamily assets during acquisition processes, ensuring compliance with financial and reporting obligations as per property management agreements. The ideal candidate will maintain a high standard of accuracy and professionalism while collaborating closely with property managers, the transactions team, and property owners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review cost segregation studies, settlement statements, and pertinent financial data to propose and document opening journal entries.
  • Prepare and analyze proration workbooks efficiently, engaging various stakeholders for input and approval.
  • Employ critical thinking and advanced Excel capabilities to assess large datasets, validate and reconcile information, resolve variances, and create accounting workbooks.
  • Oversee the complete accounting cycle and month-end close during transitions, including general ledger analysis, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Monitor property cash positions weekly and collaborate with property management to prioritize and ensure timely payment of critical items such as taxes, mortgages, and distributions.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports and analyses, including cash forecasts, and calculate and reconcile CAM charges, percent rent, and management fees when applicable.
  • Act as the primary accounting liaison for various ownership groups and properties during the transition phase.
  • Address property accounting inquiries by engaging with property staff, clients, and other stakeholders, interpreting accounting policies and financial data.
  • Conduct hand-off meetings with team members to ensure a smooth transition after a property is fully onboarded.
  • Document client-specific policies and procedures and confirm the approval of client-specific instructions.
  • Assemble and prepare documentation, including bank transfer requests and journal entry support, in accordance with company policies.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation to optimize accounting and reporting processes.
  • Uphold exceptional customer service while demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adhere to company policies, accounting procedures, and applicable laws at all levels.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required or directed.

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical capabilities coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Robust organizational skills and a proven ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Experienced in managing teams effectively.
  • Solid technical accounting expertise.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of accounting experience within the real estate sector.
  • Desired experience in intercompany accounting.
  • Familiarity with Yardi software is advantageous.
  • Background in cash management, forecasting, and planning is preferred.
