Job description

Associate Vice President for Research

Role Overview:

Hillel International is looking for an innovative and strategic Associate Vice President for Research to lead our research efforts and enhance our knowledge of Jewish college students. This role will be critical in advancing Hillel’s vision by leveraging current research to ensure we truly understand the most impactful way to inspire our students to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning, and Israel. Reporting to the Vice President for Measurement & Grants, the Associate Vice President will work across the organization to develop and implement research projects that inform our strategic direction. This position is fully remote for candidates based and authorized to work in the United States.

What You’ll Do:

  • Research Leadership: Work collaboratively with the Vice President for Measurement & Grants to develop a strategic research agenda (including conducting research and/or managing consultants) that aligns with our mission and goals. Lead the implementation of that strategy by managing research projects and ensuring the timely delivery of the results.
  • Work with Vendors to Conduct Applied Research: Informed by the research agenda and based on existing data, identify areas where additional research is needed. Draft RFPs to collect proposals, evaluate those proposals and make recommendations of how to proceed. Work directly with research consultants to ensure research (both qualitative and quantitative) is of a high quality, that the project stays on track and that the deliverables are applicable to the work of the organization.
  • Keep Up-To-Date on Relevant Research: Ensure that you are knowledgeable about past research in the field, keep a finger on the pulse of new research, and consolidate and communicate actionable insights and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Analyze and Visualize Findings: Analyze the data collected and use the information to develop actionable insights. Prepare visualizations and presentations to communicate findings to different audiences.
  • Collaborate with Partner Organizations: Build trusting relationships with researchers at partner organizations and attend research briefings to ensure that Hillel is aware of new studies and how those learnings might impact our own research agenda.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A deep understanding of applied research: You can distill key takeaways into actionable insights that impact business decisions and support the decision-making process.
  • Skills in research and project management: You have expertise in qualitative and quantitative research and experience in applying research to real-world problems. You also know how to manage a research project from beginning to end.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and visualize data with an eye towards action: You can analyze and synthesize information and translate it into actionable insights or recommendations that can be used to inform the organization’s strategy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment: Hillel is a dynamic, constantly evolving organization. You need to be able to keep up with the pace of the research and pivot as current needs change and new needs arise.
  • Experience & Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s or advanced degree preferred; At least eight years of professional experience, including a minimum of five years of prior research experience.

What you’ll get:

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $155,000.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D, and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, and parental leave.
  • A network of terrific colleagues from across the Hillel movement.
