Job Description:

The data analyst provides analytic and technical support to the AVP of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, contributing to Goucher College’s mission by leveraging data to enhance student success, improve institutional processes, and support strategic decision-making. The data analyst will  provide support on projects related to federal and state reporting, graduation and retention rates, faculty, course, and student data systems, data governance, and the maintenance of data intelligence tools.

Essential Job Functions:

30% A. Prepare and Automate Reports

  • Compile and automate federal and state reports, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • Utilize appropriate software tools to streamline the reporting process and enhance efficiency.

30% B. Develop and Maintain Data Systems

  • Design and implement data systems to generate accurate reports for Census, federal, and state requirements, including IPEDS, MHEC, and MICUA.
  • Collaborate with IT to maintain and improve reporting from student information systems, ensuring that reports capture accurate and complete student data by addressing issues of missing or incomplete information.
  • Regularly update and maintain these systems to ensure they meet current reporting standards and institutional needs.

20% C. Create Institutional Dashboards

  • Develop an integrated dashboard that captures key metrics necessary for accreditation and annual reporting.
  • Ensure that the dashboard is user-friendly and accessible to relevant stakeholders for data analysis and decision-making.
  • Utilize interactive dashboards in software systems like Power BI to present data in an engaging manner.

10% D. Ensure Data Integrity

  • Standardize metrics in alignment with guidelines established by the Data Governance Committee.
  • Actively participate in the data governance process to maintain high data quality and integrity across all systems.

10% F. Create and Administer Surveys

  • Collaborate with the AVP of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and the Director of Institutional Effectiveness to design and implement surveys using tools like Qualtrics.
  • Analyze survey results and provide insights to inform institutional strategies and initiatives.       

Education:

Required:  Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science

Professional Experience:

Required:  Three years of data analytics experience

Preferred: One year working with accreditation data in higher education

Computer Skills:

Required: Advanced computer proficiency is a necessity, including knowledge of building and manipulating spreadsheets in Excel, experience creating surveys in  Qualtrics, designing dashboards and other data visualization tools; and using statistical computing (SPSS, STATA, SAS or R) to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
