Job Description:

Performs and coordinates basic facility-wide surveillance activities aimed at preventing and controlling infections and the spread of infectious diseases in patients, employees, physicians and visitors.

Scope

As a Remote System Infection Prevention Surveillance Program Coordinator,
you need to know how to:The System Infection Prevention Centralized Surveillance Coordinator will lead a team of Surveillance Specialists for SCL Health Care Sites along with providing surveillance data and support for System leaders. This position is responsible for the System healthcare-associated infection surveillance including planning, implementation and evaluation of HAI data. Utilizes both clinical and data analytic expertise to optimize surveillance techniques, data transparency and System infection prevention opportunities. This job may be suitable for a fully remote position. Supervise a team of Surveillance Specialists who conduct surveillance activities according to current NHSN guidelines, meeting accuracy and timeliness expectations.
Collaborate with System quality leaders and data management
evaluation team on changes to NHSN standards as well as submissions to other public databases.
Apply expertise in implementing practices and standards of NHSN (National Healthcare Safety Network, subsidiary of the CDC).
- Facilitate specialized, clinical knowledge to infection prevention data: monitoring,
identify, investigate, categorize, summarize, patient electronic medical records. Applies his/her clinical expertise with data precision to improve clinical outcomes.
- Utilize appropriate statistical techniques which are used to describe the data, calculate rates/ ratios, and critically evaluate significance of findings; assists in the preparation of statistical reports.
Direct the team to apply analytics and a comprehensive knowledge base to analyze a variety of data, ascertain infection levels, identify problem areas and formulate remedial recommendations.
Partner with Care Site monitoring and reporting of infection related trends.
Ensure the validation of the Care Site infection prevention data in specified registries or measure data repositories, maintaining a high accuracy threshold.
Serve as a project manager for ongoing surveillance activities.
Prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines for multiple concurrent tasks and team requests; apply leadership experience to manage expectations, flag obstacles and propose solutions in a timely manner.
Navigate new technical systems: electronic medical records (EMR), registry/case entry tools for NHSN, CMS, etc. Data mining software or data visualization tools (i.e., VigiLanz, Tableau, etc.). Use team resources to troubleshoot technical issues with systems and applications with a focus on solutions.
Contribute to team best practices, data dictionaries, abstraction guidelines, and other business rule documents; identify process improvement opportunities to help streamline tasks and processes.
Stay current on mandated regulatory/publicly reported data requirements as specified by federal, state, payer and other agencies and serve as the System subject matter expert in this realm.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
Bachelors Degree in healthcare related field (i.e., Nursing, Microbiology, Public Health)- Completion of National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Surveillance Course and APIC Epic 101 Training Courses- Minimum 3 years of experience in infection prevention and surveillance- Experience with data surveillance systems (i.e., Epic Bugsy, Vigilanz, Theradoc)
Preferred:
Masters Degree (i.e., Public Health, Nursing)- Project Management Professional certification- Data analysis and statistics- Experience with Epic, Tableau, Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to approach problems in a systematic method using the ability to synthesize data and suggest recommendations- Demonstrates high standards for accuracy and attention to detail- Demonstrates technical skills and strong desire to learn new systems and technology- Thrives working independently and takes ownership of projects/patient records- Consistently and clearly communicates, adjusting style and tone as needed to effectively collaborate with hospital partners, peers, team leads and others- Demonstrates strong self-organizational and time management skills to concurrently manage multiple accounts, adjusting as needed to shifting timelines and priorities- Adapts to changes in care site partner timelines, requirements, and project assignments- Maintains a high degree of responsibility in keeping PHI secure and confidentialTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
