The Opportunity ...

Purpose

Sets-up and operates assigned fabrication and finishing machines, including hydraulic, pneumatic and electric equipment which are used to produce food grade stainless steel parts. Employees must maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety control standards. Embraces the Lean Enterprise strategy and adheres to all safety policies.

Fabricator Responsibilities

  • Sets-up and operates conventional fabrication and finishing equipment. Must be able to run following equipment at a competent level: glass bead blasting, hydraulic press, drill press, and stroking machine.
  • Using standard hand tools and small power tools (hand drills, hand grinders, etc.), and pneumatic hand helds in blasting, grinding, deburring, blending and polishing.
  • Effectively uses basic measuring tools to inspect parts and maintains quality standards by using charts, inspection to print and other in-process inspection procedures.
  • Maintains production rates according to established standards.
  • Notifies Supervisor of any problems with procedures or equipment to maintain the highest degree of safety, inventory accuracy and productivity.
  • Always maintains a high awareness of personal safety. Maintains working area in a neat and orderly manner. Maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees.


Welding Responsibilities

  • Performs TIG and MIG welding in flat, vertical, or overhead positions to produce quality, sanitary welds.
  • Interprets blueprints, weld symbols, and work instructions to plan work activities within established time, safety, and quality standards
  • Positions parts to be welded with clamps and fixtures; ensure proper fit-up in accordance with blueprint by using measuring and hand tools
  • Verifies and inspects completed work for conformance to specifications and standards using appropriate measuring devices
  • Completes required project documentation within computer ERP system such as labor time tracking and project status
  • Uses material handling equipment to move parts, components, and weldments to next process
  • Practices good housekeeping in work area

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.

Technical or vocational school certification preferred OR minimum of 1 year work experience performing TIG & MIG weld on multiple gauges of stainless steel required

One to three years’ experience with fabrication equipment, and basic machine tools.

Familiarity with a general factory setting.

Excellent punctuality and attendance expected.

Some weekends and/or overtime may be required.

Knowledge And Skills

High level mechanical aptitude.

Must be able to plan ordinary work from blueprints, sketches, templates or from specific verbal instructions. Basic knowledge of product components. Understands the physical properties of metals and applies knowledge in the fabrication and finishing of parts.

Able to use hand and power tools.

Mechanical aptitude essential.

Able to operate basic machine tools

Must be able to measure and verify dimensions using tape measure, scale, micrometer or templates.

Experience with operation and set up of Computer Numerically Controlled Press brakes.

Able to perform accurate arithmetical calculations.

Able to plan sequence of operations to produce the most cost-effective parts.

Reads advanced blueprints.

Numerical aptitude desirable.

Work Environment: Time is spent in a manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to possible shop hazards including noise, heavy lifting, machinery, forklift and crane traffic. Could be exposed to diverse hot and cold climate conditions for extended periods.

Physical Demands: Constant standing. Frequent crouching, stooping, kneeling, lying, climbing, stretching, lifting, and bending. Frequent handling and grasping of finishing devices, grinders, hand tools, and more. Ability to lift, push, pull, etc. up to 50 pounds individually. Ability to see details at close range.
