Position Description

The Virtual Primary Care Physician is responsible for telehealth services, supporting the clinical care and administrative tasks as they pertain to their position. The Virtual Primary Care Physician provides telehealth consultations exclusively for the patients of Evernorth Workplace Care (EWC) and supports the other advanced practice providers in doing the same.

Essential Job Functions

  • Consult and treat patients virtually by providing clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic telehealth medical services in their area of experience and training including but not limited to virtual urgent care and virtual primary care, along with related administrative services including meeting attendance, in-basket management, provider cross-coverage, and supervision responsibilities consistent with EWC policy and state regulations.

  • Work as a key participant and leader within the virtual care team structure ensuring all virtual care providers are following evidence-based guidelines as it pertains to virtual care.

  • Provide Virtual Primary Care treatment in an Employer-based setting to include chronic condition management, appropriate referrals, virtual wellness exams, and ordering labs and imaging in alignment with primary care practices.

  • Episodic care (low acuity Urgent Care)

  • Extended Episodic Acute Care which can include 4-5 visits for an illness or injury that is limited in its chronicity

  • Chronic condition education and co-management with outside primary care if EWC is not the PCP

  • Ability to oversee CLIA waived tests, order Rx medications, and oversee dispensing by the RN where allowed by state law.

  • Collaboration with onsite RN health coach to provide biometric screening and health and wellness education to a client’s employees where available.

  • Recommend and order immunizations based on USPSTF preventive services guidelines and ACIP.

  • Work with the RN health coach to refer patients into wellness programs and follow-up on all referrals where available.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with and manage members of the health care team (MA, RN, APPs)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including internal and external customers and group settings

  • Ability to partner with local HR/Benefits team to improve employee health.

  • Periodic site visits to virtual locations as needed for client/patient engagement events

Physician must meet the following qualifications:

  • Obtain and maintain licenses in good standing to practice medicine in the appropriate states, as requested. Current states are:  FL, TN, PA, NY, KS.

  • Obtain and maintain all approvals to prescribe and dispense drugs under applicable state and federal laws.

  • Apply for, obtain, and/or maintain active medical staff privileges at EWC pursuant to Medical Staff Bylaws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Maintain board certification in Family Medicine.

  • Maintain a Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure as well as state-specific controlled substance certifications where applicable.

  • Participate in regular Medical Staff activities and responsibilities, including, without limitation, attendance at Medical Staff meetings, completion of clinical chart reviews and completion of all EWC training including annual compliance training.

  • Complete and receive credit for continuing medical education per medical board and state licensure requirements.

  • Consistent with Company’s procedures and policies, Physician shall prepare and complete, timely and accurate medical and other records (collectively “Records”) with respect to the services and treatment rendered to any patient by Physician.

  • Meet or exceed quality metrics, clinical competencies, and patient satisfaction according to the Medical Group standards.

  • Work with CMO and other clinical leaders to establish best practices in telehealth and virtual care services.

  • Act as collaborating physician for advanced practice providers in states where required according to EWC policy, Evernorth compliance standards, and state regulations.

  • Conduct monthly chart reviews and monthly/quarterly meetings with advanced practice providers according to EWC policy and state regulations.

  • Take on additional tasks as reasonably requested

Specific Job Responsibilities & Expectations

  • 90% clinical time, 10% administration

  • Minimum forty (40) clinical hours per week including thirty-six (36) hours of direct patient care, and four (4) hours of administrative time to dedicate to clinical competency, quality metrics, in-basket management, meeting attendance, APP chart review and APP meetings.

  • Eligible for bonus incentives for achievement of quality and clinical competency goals as well as APP collaboration.

  • Participation in committees, quality improvement processes, patient safety review, mentorship opportunities.

  • Collaboration in development of workflows, policies, and procedures as relates to virtual primary care and hybrid care model.

  • Supervision of APPs in compliance with state requirements

  • <10% travel. As needed for requirements of maintenance of certification/CME; and participation in EWC meetings or events as deemed necessary.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to provide high quality care, using verbal, written, and analytical skills, with a high level of empathy.

  • Leadership within the virtual care team.

  • Ability to interact with various levels of personnel within the organization, (e.g., patients, nursing, colleagues, and senior leadership)

  • EMR experience (Epic preferred)

Education and Experience

  • MD/DO with ABMS Board Certification in Family Medicine.

  • Board certification for minimum of two (2) years

  • Minimum four (4) years post residen
    cy experience in primary care setting

  • Experience working with APPs.

  • Candidates with multiple state licenses preferred

  • Experience working in the onsite industry

  • Experience providing virtual care/telehealth

  • Chronic Disease Management experience

  • Passionate about overall health and wellness and patient education

  • High energy and strong patient-centric focus

This role is a full time position, with the ideal 4x10 schedule of Tuesday - Friday. Must be willing to obtain multiple state licenses. The ideal candidate resides in Central or Eastern time zones.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 191,300 - 318,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
