Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Corporate Controller to join our rapidly growing edtech startup, recognized as a leading platform for admissions consulting in the fields of medicine, law, business, and higher education. This pivotal role, which offers the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States or Canada, is responsible for managing our financial operations and ensuring the accuracy of our financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and the provision of strategic financial insights to inform our decision-making, particularly during mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the precision of financial data.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the audit process and resolve any issues.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual budget and financial forecasts, alongside variance analysis and necessary adjustments.
  • Lead the financial due diligence for acquisitions, assess target company financials, identify risks, and aid in deal valuation.
  • Work closely with the M&A team to create and implement financial integration plans post-merger.
  • Analyze financial data and metrics to derive strategic insights for the CFO and executive leadership.
  • Develop and mentor the accounting team to foster professional growth and development.
  • Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and key metrics to stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • CPA qualification is essential.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QBO, Oracle NetSuite, SAP) and financial modeling tools (e.g., Excel).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in corporate accounting, including at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • 3-5 years of experience in M&A accounting diligence and post-merger finance integration.
  • Proven experience in managing the accounting cycle, including closing, consolidation, and financial reporting.
