Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province’s electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs – now and into the future.
The opportunity
The Solutions Development team is responsible for developing and supporting software applications used by market participants and IESO staff. The Analyst Solutions position will perform several key roles such as application support & development, project management, and solution analysis.
What you'll do
- Assist/contribute to developing integrated computer-based information solutions for business and operations processes for the reliable power system operation and other administrative needs of the IESO-Administered Markets
- Duties include performing analysis of customer requirements, recommending functional specifications, and preparing recommended information solutions (e.g., impacting areas of software, hardware, communications and business processes)
- Contribute to the management and evolution of existing information systems and tools related to the market operation, supply, security, and settlement services related to the management of the power system, to allow for additional functionality, improved reliability/maintainability and problem correction
- Assist/contribute to identifying opportunities for information solutions that will allow effective and economic benefits for customers
- Address the overall solution regarding communications, data sources, software tools, integration with existing functions, user interfaces, algorithms, etc.
- Assist in monitoring and assessing assigned projects to develop and expand information systems and tools
- Assist in providing project management support to projects or teams involved in expanding and improving information systems and tools
- Contribute to and carry out close customer relationships and be alert to identifying potential improvements to existing systems and propose new information system requirements
- Contribute as directed to the development of strategic plans and standards
- Assist in developing peers and associates to advance their learning and facilitate problem-solving skills within their respective areas of expertise
- Contribute to the accepted life cycle management methodology for Information Technology solutions
- Contribute to the security, archive and audit requirements in designing and implementing information technology solutions while considering Information Technology architecture standards and guidelines
- Perform other duties as required
What you'll need to succeed
Education
- Requires academic solid knowledge of computer science and associated subjects, including strong practical ability and demonstrated all aspects of the software development life cycle
- This knowledge is usually acquired through the successful completion of four-year university education in the appropriate field/discipline or by having an equivalent education
Experience
- Requires demonstrated expertise in web application development using Appian, HTML and JavaScript.
- Requires demonstrated expertise in data queries (i.e., Oracle, MS SQL Server and MySQL)
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an asset:
- Experience with design, code, test, debug and document enterprise software applications
- Knowledge of operating systems, application servers, web servers, and web application architectural concepts
- Strong background in logical data modelling
- Experience with workflow and user interface design
- Familiarity with software delivery methodologies such as Agile/Scrum
- Experience with Appian BPM, low-code, and Web Services solutions
A period of over four years, up to and including six years, is considered necessary to gain this experience.
The selected individual may be required to be on-call to support applications 24x7 periodically.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario. It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario. When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, ON location.
