Medical Billing/Coding Specialist - Remote | Work From Home

Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Billing/Coding Specialist to join our innovative healthcare team. In this remote role, you will apply your knowledge of insurance regulations, health insurance contracts, and medical coding to support a variety of revenue cycle operations. Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services, you will actively contribute to enhancing our billing processes and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and extract patient record information, collaborating with healthcare providers for necessary clarifications.
  • Prepare and submit essential documents for the OK Review Choice Demonstration process via the Eservices platform.
  • Review documents for accuracy and completeness, making corrections as needed.
  • Assign the correct CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and DRG codes, ensuring adherence to professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct audits of patient charts and provide constructive feedback on coding practices to the clinical team.
  • Train and advise providers and staff on effective medical coding techniques.
  • Act as a liaison for resolving billing software issues and troubleshooting related matters.
  • Maintain compliance with medical coding policies and guidelines.
  • Stay updated on coding and diagnostic procedures, actively participating in compliance activities as requested.
  • Assist in pre-authorization processes for contracted insurances.
  • Ensure the practice management system is accurate and up-to-date, managing all aspects of patient account payments and claims processing.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing patient billing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Support various coding, billing, and practice management projects as needed, contributing to operational efficiency.
  • Uphold all legal requirements and documentation standards, including HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in the selection, training, and orientation of new personnel as required.

Required Skills

  • Proficient in medical coding systems including CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and DRG codes.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and EMR navigation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines effectively.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing tasks.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and revenue cycle management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Coding Certification from AAPC or AHIMA is required.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience in medical coding and billing.
  • Preferred: Five years of experience in medical coding and billing, particularly with geriatric or home health populations.
