Job Description

The Medical Director, Fertility supports development of multiple operational plans and strategies that will directly impact the success of medical affairs initiatives. Responsible for cross functional coordination including leadership to develop, deliver, and further coordinate scientific support, medical information and scientific leader engagement for Fertility Solutions and the CSI Global Research Program. Responsible for management of designated team members in the Medical Affairs Fertility team.

Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Provide leadership and management of fertility medical science liaisons and CooperSurgical’s research program.
  • Work in a goal/objective oriented manner to plan and execute annual goals in alignment with the corporate annual goals and core business strategy.
  • Create and manage a quarterly/ annual departmental budget, meet with VP Medical affairs and finance business partner monthly to pivot activities accordingly.
  • Train, develop, and mentor MSLs and specialists to build their skillsets.
  • Provide continual feedback to team members on their individual performance.
  • Discuss performance issues with team members and set up a plan for resolution.
  • Identify opportunities for team member advancement (raises and/or promotions).
  • Work with individual team members to set technical and training goals.


Medical Information/ Knowledge

  • Develops and oversees implementation of medical strategy and tactics including scientific communications and publications, annual medical planning, field communications, and collaborations with experts.
  • Obtain and maintain full proficiency in disease state and product knowledge of CSI fertility portfolio.
  • Serve as a credible and valued representative in a variety of interactions with key stakeholders internally and externally- work collaboratively with the commercial team, regulatory, legal, R&D, marketing, professional education, commercial operations etc.
  • Review and provide medical approval for promotional and non-promotional materials including commercial campaigns, professional education materials, sales training resources, scholarship and non-promotional education for fertility.
  • Guide balanced medical information for patients and HCPs from the medical science liaison team; address questions about safety and off label use of company products based on available scientific data.
  • Drive the creation of multimedia scientific educational content for presentation in live and virtual formats for health care providers, scientists, patients and CooperSurgical employees.
  • Plan and conduct regular and extensive reviews of the literature, develop presentations and assist with publications and medical communications.
  • Keep abreast of medical and scientific developments in fertility health areas.
  • Deliver non-promotional educational programs for embryologists, advanced care provider training programs, fertility fellowships, community institutions, hospitals and at other scientific events.
  • Adhere to corporate compliance in all activities, including those related to scientific interactions with internal and external groups.


Scientific Leader/ HCP Relationships

  • Develop and track SL and HCPs engagement plans for the MSL team with the goal to identify, develop, and maintain long-term collaborative relationships with KOLs/HCPs.
  • Identify and establish scientific and clinical relationships with thought leaders and academic centers to engage in scientific exchange and maintain a reliable presence with those scientific leaders to ensure they have a medical contact within the company.
  • Plan and execute advisory boards, speaker training, clinical investigator meetings, and regional and national conference symposiums.


Data Generation and Dissemination-

  • Develop a strategic research publication plan for Fertility in line with the strategic vision of medical affairs and CooperSurgical.
  • Oversee and provide hands on support in management, generation and dissemination of clinical and non-clinical data that supports the medical strategy and results in high quality presentations and publications.
  • Identify and evaluate scientific merit of study protocols for projects in fertility.
  • Oversee the budgeting process for fertility research projects.
  • Guide medical science liaisons in preparing materials for investigator and team meetings for fertility research studies.
  • Manage the research process with to the medical science liaison and other collaborators from project review, approval, execution and completion.


Medical Education Grants Program

  • Oversee and manage the CSI Global Medical Education Grants Program including budgeting, project management, strategic focus and compliance.
  • Manage the Medical Education Grants Specialist.
  • Work closely with to triage medical device grants with the Medical Director, Medical Device.
  • Collaborate with key CSI stakeholders of the Medical Education Grants Program.
  • Assist in the review and approval of grant applications- including engaging with applicants to understand if activities meet CSI’s strategic needs.


Travel:

Possible need for domestic and/or international travel 25-50%.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad leadership and management knowledge and demonstrated capability to lead multiple job areas
  • Mastery-level knowledge and skills in fertility, broadly and, specifically, in laboratory-based fertility processes
  • Confident and competent communication skills, particularly in discussing complex scientific concepts with clinical, scientific and lay audiences
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to appropriately document and summarize communications of significant complexity


Work Environment:

  • Ability to work effectively from a remote setting and to sit for extended periods of time using computer equipment.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally


Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant fertility/ embryology work experience, including at least 5 years in a laboratory setting with demonstration of an increasing leadership role
  • Prior medical affairs industry experience is required.


Education:

  • Candidates must be experienced in all aspects of the laboratory management of gametes and embryos including oocyte identification, sperm preparation and selection, insemination, ICSI, embryo culture, embryo biopsy, assisted hatching, gamete/embryo cryopreservation, gamete/embryo thawing, and embryo transfer.
  • A PhD is required
