Job Summary

The Instructional Technologist assists with the management of courses utilizing the learning management system and third-party courseware. The Instructional Technologist is part of the Online Education team, supporting the maintenance of online course material.

This position engages with faculty and staff of all technical backgrounds to effectively resolve issues, as well as manage and complete projects in a timely, organized, and professional manner.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Perform job duties by Columbia College’s vision, mission, and values, and contribute to the development of the Online Education Department.
  • Assist faculty with course design, development, and delivery using the D2L and other technologies.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues related to online courses and instructional tools.
  • Collaborates with the Online Education team to maintain and update online course materials.
  • Stays up to date with emerging instructional technologies and best practices.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Respond to support requests from faculty, staff, and students through a centralized support ticketing system.
  • Provide ongoing assistance with the maintenance of courses and training (course copy, dates, exams, external links, courseware, multimedia, and enrollments).
  • Assist Instructional Designers with the request and implementation of publisher content such as test banks and other instructor resources.
  • Manage, maintain, and implement third-party courseware for both Online and CCG locations.
  • Make recommendations and work to resolve problems; prepare and deliver effective email, face-to-face, and phone support to a variety of end-users.


Required Core Competencies

  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language
  • Proficiency with the following but not limited to active listening, speaking, writing, critical thinking, judgment, and decision making, monitoring, reading comprehension, time management, coordination, and management of personnel resources
  • Proficiency in using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office Products and database systems
  • Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills are required to forecast, troubleshoot technical limitations, and anticipate the effects of design decisions, system performance, and user experience to deliver quality learning assets
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems creatively
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • A self-directed learner who actively pursues training opportunities to add and enhance skills
  • Proven ability to stay current with rapidly changing technologies
  • High attention to detail
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with technology or equivalent education
  • Some experience in HTML and CSS: multimedia (including images, audio, and video): Adobe Creative Suite, or related tools


Education And Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree is preferred but not required
