About the role

DS Smith has an exciting opportunity for an Asset Procurement Analyst to join our Group Procurement function. The role will support the business and manage the internal/external promotion and sale of the used equipment across DS Smith. This role will be Remote within Europe (ideal location would be northern Italy) but with multi-national travel.

The Group Procurement Function is accountable for:

  • Shaping and aligning the Procurement strategy to support the achievement of business goals including growth, innovation, ESG (inc Scope 3) and manufacturing excellence

  • Partnering with stakeholders to ensuring the function competitively sources quality products and supplier services whilst maintaining and building strong relationships with strategic suppliers in line with group Innovation, ESG and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals

  • Partnering differently across the value chain to create innovative business offerings that delight our internal and external customers to support business growth.

The Asset Procurement Analyst, reporting to a Global Category Manager, works collaboratively with stakeholders across the business. As the successful candidate you will be responsible for ensuring internal procedures and processes are designed to effectively sell our used equipment on the second-hand market. Excellent stakeholder management skills will be required with key stakeholders including senior management, Procurement, Legal, Operation, and Technical teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Cooperate with the business ensuring the best output from each internal asset relocation or sale operation.

  • Provide periodical updates and analysis to the IG&S Team for the area of the responsibility

  • Integrate category strategies that drive holistic performance. These strategies include value creation across multiple dimensions, including optimizing the assets sale price, cost reduction, innovation, top line performance and sustainability (ESG) leadership.

  • Understanding and responding to market intelligence and economic fundamentals to define the optimal terms and conditions when defining the promotions on the second-hand market.

  • Delivering supplier strategies which actively anticipate and reduce supplier risk (eg sole supplier risk, financial health, data privacy, information security, modern slavery) and secure competitive supply. Partnering with group stakeholders and Procurement Excellence Teams to understand and embed agreed risk standards across portfolio

  • Supervise appropriate Supplier contracting strategies are in place across the portfolio to mitigate legal and regulatory exposure.

  • Ensure there is an aligned approach for managing relevant contracts with business stakeholders.

  • Ensure relevant Supplier Performance and Relationship Management processes and priorities are in place and aligned with business stakeholders and Regional Procurement teams.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers. Ensure supplier reviews are conducted at appropriate frequencies as agreed with stakeholders.

  • Ensure that Strategic Suppliers (eg. used machines traders) have ‘top to top’ meetings and governance in place and aligned with business stakeholders.

  • Build relationships across the Procurement and Operation community, Procurement Leadership Team and with key local stakeholders.

  • Represent the Function on Procurement topics in cross functional forums.   

About you

  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage complex end to end operations.

  • Experience in procurement specialist or sales role

  • Fluency in English. Fluency in another European language where DS Smith has a presence would be an advantage.

  • Degree level or equivalent by experience. Bachelor's degree

  • Proficient use of MS Excel (eg. shortcuts and formula functions, building charts and graphs, utilizing pivot tables)

  • Proficient use of MS PowerPoint

  • Experience in managing procurement sourcing and negotiations.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence in a matrix environment.
