Marketing Director – Customer and Market Segment (Europe)
This role can be based at any of our European Hubs, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and France.
As Marketing Director for Customer and Market Segment, you will be responsible for managing and engaging with all customer types in all market segments, through various marketing activities and events. This role requires a strong understanding of healthcare, commercial and academic customer types, as well as ability to market to these customer types and tailoring branding, content creation, digital marketing, and to the unique needs of the customer.
The Director of Marketing, Customer and Market Segment, will lead the newly created Customer and Market Segment team. They will contribute to the growth of our markets by owning the strategy build, development, and execution of regional marketing plans to drive growth in individual customer segments. Part of this role is also to lead the channel partner marketing efforts to reach customers in distributed territories.

This is a leadership role with high visibility, working in a cross-functional organisation.
Strategy development: Develop strategic, multi-channel coordinated marketing plans for all customers segments:
- Lead marketing strategy, launch excellence, market shaping, and go-to-market model for all Illumina customer types and market segments.
- Develop and deliver European multichannel marketing campaigns and associated deliverables, with cross-regional and cross-functional buy-in.
- Establish and deliver unique solutions to elevate the customer experience
- Develop and shape marketing strategies, tactics, customer solutions, and messaging
Strategy implementation: Leverage the omni-channel and product marketing teams for strategy deployment and execution:
- Partner with our commercial team to build tactical plans that enable the team to deliver on the pre-defined strategy and growth commitments
- Identify, plan, and manage execution of memorable in-person event experiences as well as digital journeys that align with business goals and objectives
- Develop customer segment-focused content and collateral, and work with the omnichannel team for best deployment options and tactics to reach desired results
Cross functional collaboration: Coordinate with business partners, sales, strategic growth, market access and medical affairs, to ensure strategic alignment and execution
- Work closely with Medical Affairs to ensure robust publication plans and enduring/differentiating data generation and messaging
- Collaborate with Market Access to develop value propositions that support/bolster reimbursement and approvals
- Work with R&D and Regulatory to bring commercial insight, develop/strengthen the Product Development Process (PDP), and implement the broader vision for Illumina’s leadership in genomics
- Collaborate with key cross-functional partners (Analytics, Finance, Competitive Intelligence, etc.) to develop differentiating value proposition
- Create a culture of customer centricity and best practice sharing
- Monitor and evaluate team progress, providing feedback and guidance to support continuous improvement and professional development
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required. Postgraduate qualification, PhD, MBA, or other graduate degree or equivalent experience is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience in the life science industry is required.
- Experience of in-line marketing, marketing support, or sales management/training experience implementing marketing strategy is required.
- An ability to handle multiple demands and priorities on time, lead teams, gain alignment and driving decision making is required.
- Strong executive, verbal and written communication skills are required, along with demonstrated presentation skills.
- Prior experience in marketing to clinical and research markets, or scientific background is preferred.
- Senior brand responsibility, product launch, experience in working with global or multi-cultural teams and a strong understanding of product development is preferred.
- Significant international experience; specifically, previous working experience with different geographies; working knowledge of differing markets is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, analytical, and project management abilities.
- Proven ability to plan, execute, and achieve sales and profit targets, along with associated performance metrics.
- Demonstrated effectiveness across all areas impacting product lines.
- High technical proficiency and ability to multitask.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a track record of motivating cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
