Job description

R&D LLP, a respected boutique law firm located in central/downtown Toronto, (Yorkville area) seeks a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented experienced paralegal/legal assistant with strong project management skills. This role offers a fully remote opportunity although with attendance at firm social or client events from time to time. You will manage complex and significant matters in civil/commercial litigation, ensuring efficient operations within our dynamic team. Candidates must be located in the Province of Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

Case and Project Management: The primary responsibility for this role is to oversee the progression of cases and files within the Litigation Practice Group. (must be your strongest skillset)

Preparation and Coordination: Prepare files for trial and coordinate all stages of civil litigation actions.

Deadline and Deliverables Management: Monitor deadlines and ensure the completion of deliverables by the litigation group including keeping team members on track and accountable for case deliverables.

Client and Witness Interaction: Conduct interviews and maintain and ensure communication with clients to keep them informed of case status and cultivating client satisfaction throughout the case.

Calendar and Scheduling: Manage lawyers' and the practice group's calendars and coordinate various legal matters including court dates, deadlines, limitation periods and tickler reminders.

Legal Drafting: Assist in drafting pleadings, motion records, and other court documents under the supervision of counsel.

Quality Control: Ensure adherence to firm policies and the highest standards of legal practice.

Client Relations: Maintain regular contact with clients, ensuring their continued satisfaction and engagement including cultivating referral relationships and obtaining positive client reviews.

Requirements

Professional Demeanor: Strong interpersonal skills and a positive professional attitude. Excellent writing skills, active listening skills, and diligent work ethic.

Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of litigation-related technology, including Adobe Professional and Caselines.

Litigation Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of civil and commercial litigation processes including the Rules of Civil Procedure and applicable practice directions relevant to the practice.

Autonomy: Capability to work independently, meeting production goals with minimal supervision.

Experience: 3-5 years as a Litigation Paralegal or Legal Assistant demonstrating excellent case management skills.

Compensation

Salary: Base salary $55,000 to $76,000 CAD depending upon experience

Bonus opportunity: Variable compensation component based upon achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) on a monthly/quarterly basis

Benefits: Enrollment in firm benefits plan (health and dental for employees; currently using Sun Life as benefits provider)

Work Arrangement

Remote Work: Primary location is fully remote, with occasional required attendance at the firm's downtown Toronto office and live within the Provence of Ontario.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EST, with flexibility required as dictated by case demands.
