Avesis is seeking an Assistant Controller who will play a critical role in managing the financial operations and supporting the overall financial strategy. This role involves day-to-day financial management, supporting operational efficiencies and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting.
The Assistant Corporate Controller will act as a business partner for multiple stakeholders and report directly to the Corporate Controller. This position is responsible for oversight of the financial operations of the Avesis Controllers group. Financial operations include but are not limited to: maintaining accurate financial records, accountable for annual audit, state and client deliverables, and revenue recognition for both GAAP and Statutory Financial statement reporting and analysis. The position will also play a key leadership role in the execution of projects including integration between the bank and the core underwriting system and the integration of the core underwriting system and the general ledger.
Essential Job Functions:
- Evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures related to both GAAP and Statutory Accounting requirements.
- Participating in the on-boarding of governmental contracts and significant new business initiatives.
- Effectively coordinating Controllership efforts in responding in a timely manner to state insurance department regulatory inquiries\exams and internal and external audit requests.
- Evaluating exam or audit findings and implementing recommendations.
- Providing support for the annual budget process and completing budget to actual reporting and various other business analyses.
- Maintaining strong financial processes, procedures, and internal controls.
- Effectively interacting with other departments and corporate areas in the completion of initiatives and projects.
- Management of staff to ensure timely completion of numerous quarterly and annual state compliance filings.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes to enable the team to improve customer satisfaction and capitalize on increased efficiency to take on additional value-added responsibilities that can benefit the profit center and company.
- Participate in evaluating annual statement reporting changes and coordinating efforts of staff, other areas and corporate to ensure that changes will be completed efficiently and accurately as needed.
- Maintaining Sage to ensure the ledger can capture accurately, and efficiently financial information required by the company’s profit center management and statutory reporting.
- Support the finance/ accounting processes and reporting related to the Operations claims system.
- Identifying business execution risks; developing contingency plans and coordinating execution.
- Demonstrating a collaborative approach to problem–solving by successfully working with and effectively communicating with other areas (i.e. actuaries, business units and operations) and with corporate by clarifying detailed projects and process information.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required; CPA/MBA desired.
- 10+ years of progressive insurance industry statutory and GAAP accounting & financial reporting experience required. Assistant Corporate Controller experience a plus.
- Mentoring and management experience.
- Experience partnering with senior leadership both in a Finance and cross-functional capacity
- Strong communication skills
- Influence decisions at the highest level within a collaborative and team-centric culture
- Proactive and self-motivated to solve problems; comfortable with a high degree of responsibility in ambiguous situations
- Accountable for results and drive a performance-based culture of accountability for your team
- Track record of leading, growing, and developing high-performing teams, with a focus on hands-on development and coaching
- Workday and Oracle G/L experience, a plus
- Strong understanding of procurement, negotiation, and conflict resolution techniques
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office products
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with GAAP and Statutory accounting principles
- Comprehensive knowledge of management principles and insurance industry products services and processes.
- As this role is a remote role, you are required to maintain internet service that allows you to complete your essential job duties without issue. Rates of 50 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload while hardwired and not on a VPN are sufficient.
FLSA Status: Salary/Exempt
National Salary Range: $67,490 - $87,230
