Job description

For a UN Agency in Geneva, NTT DATA is currently looking for a Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) - Ubuntu22 / Oracle 8 to work remotely from Europe. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing UN Agency's security stance. You will be responsible for developing server hardened builds for various Linux Operating Systems that are specifically tailored to UN requirements. You will also be responsible for specifying the remediation requirements for the existing Linux server estate for the BAU support teams to implement.

Your role will be:

  • Act as the SME for all Linux related project activities.
  • Provide advice, guidance and recommendations for implementing CIS server hardening standards.
  • Developing UN Baseline Server Builds for each in scope Operating System that are consistent with CIS standards and compatible with UN applications and services.
  • Test each Baseline build with a selection of representative applications and services to ensure the baseline build is compatible.
  • Work with our UN partners to develop and test processes to deliver new servers consistently meeting the new Baseline Standard.
  • Produce and agree technical documentation related to the Baseline build and associated processes.
  • Work with BAU support teams to agree and implement the new UN Baseline Builds into the standard BAU delivery process.
  • Identify remediation activities that can be conducted on existing Linux servers with no risk to the production environment.
  • Develop and define actions required to remediate existing Linux servers.
  • Communicate and agree remediation activities with BAU support teams and help raise the necessary change requests.
  • Using CIS Reports identify Linux servers requiring additional remediation and work with application teams to develop remediation plans and tools worldwide, whether operated by DIST or not.

You will need to:

  • At least 10 years of experience configuring and administering Linux Server Operating Systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience with:
    • Linux O/S: Ubuntu22 or Ubuntu24 and/or Oracle 8
    • Linux scripting such as Bash and/or Python
    • Linux tools such as strace, iptables, lsof and ss
    • CIS Server Hardening Standards
    • CIS Benchmark Tools
  • Basic Knowledge working with Java JVM and virtual memory and heap size configurations.
  • Extensive experience developing and communicating technical requirements to other IT staff.
  • Prior experience creating technical documentation.
  • Clear ability to be able to plan and prioritise as well as being able to take the initiative without having to wait for instruction.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

  • Previous experience working in humanitarian, non-profit or NGO organizations is desirable.
