As Vice President, you will play a pivotal role in leading and expanding our clinical research capabilities. You will leverage your demonstrated subject matter expertise to build, strengthen, and grow our HHS portfolio; bringing additional visibility internally and externally; and leading strategic planning activities for business development. The successful candidate will lead business development and strategy in this area and build and expand client relationships across key government agencies. This position is responsible for technical and financial oversight of a portfolio of projects. You will forecast performance against business metrics while overseeing and building upon the sector’s workforce.

A hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days on-site at a Westat office location is preferred, remote work arrangements will be considered. Remote work arrangements will have required travel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead business development by identifying growth opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations in clinical research and shaping the organization's direction in this area.
  • Bring best practices and creative clinical research solutions, including leading capture activities, and presenting to prospective clients.
  • Work with Practice leadership to build upon the existing infectious disease portfolio, develop and implement a growth strategy, and set and achieve near and long-term business development goals and opportunities.
  • Expand client relationships across agencies that fund and operate important clinical research programs, aligning Westat capabilities to target opportunities.
  • Forecast and manage monthly and quarterly business metrics, including revenue and new business targets.
  • Serve as Corporate Officer for a portfolio of federally funded clinical research projects, provide oversight and support to staff, and work with clients to address issues and ensure a high caliber of performance by fostering a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within project teams.
  • Serve as the Principal Investigator (PI)/Project Director (PD) for projects, demonstrating subject matter expertise in coordination and management of FDA- regulated trials and epidemiological projects.
  • Serve as a leader for Practice staff, mentoring and helping them achieve career milestones.
  • Lead and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
  • Coordinate routinely with the Practice Director regarding goals related to overall practice management.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. plus 20 years of advanced project performance/management in clinical trials, public health or a combination of these fields, including experience leading large and complex network operations in a government contract consulting environment.
  • Domain expertise in biomedical/clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a similar field. A track record of bringing innovative technical solutions to projects.
  • Broad experience with HHS agencies including CDC, FDA, and NIH with a proven track record of project leadership, successful business development, and effective client interaction.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership through publications and presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful business development planning and proposal oversight, management, and writing.

The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail oriented, able to take initiative, as well as direction from the Practice Director. Must be capable of managing multiple tracks of complex business activities simultaneously. Must be effective working both independently and in teams with a commitment to fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
