The Manager, Inventory Planning contributes to Mattress Firm's success by being accountable to building a differentiated customer first inventory deployment model that drives profitable revenue growth, margin improvement, inventory optimization and total network cost reductions. This individual analyzes inventory and demand to develop new strategic inventory operating models and is responsible for translating finance and merchandising direction into inventory plans by product and holding location. The Manager, Inventory Planning is accountable for collaborating cross functionally to establish and incorporate strategic inventory deployment models in support of network optimization and speed to customer. 

 
 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Produce inventory related financial guidance and targets to meet key performance metrics, which include a customer-first focus on Supply Chain's "3P's: Promise, Performance, Perception" and six critical inventory-focused metrics which balance our financial and customer outcomes. 

  • Analyze inventory allocation to ensure efficient use of working capital, including the development and management of an ABC classification strategy that drives weeks of supply decisions across all categories. Balance financial targets and capacity within the strategy. 

  • Develop and communicate unit-based purchase plans at the distribution center variant level and participate cross functionally with vendors and suppliers in key CPFR activities. 

  • Track, evaluate, and refine the purchase planning process, including development of purchase planning accuracy reporting. 

  • Produce strategic inventory plans in support of initiatives and vendor specific purchase plans. 

  • Collaborate with Merchandising, IT, Operations, Finance, and Planning to align on inventory planning related projects and initiatives. 

  • Partner with management to execute a tactical implementation plan for the improvement of current planning and network modeling tools. 

  • Partner with Analytics to develop visualization tools and dashboards. 

  • Tasked with inventory modeling as well as forecast and data validation in pursuit of continuous improvement. 

  • Monitor sales trends and inventory forecasts to course correct product life cycle inventory. 

  • Identify and addresses future inventory issues in an effort to reduce impact to business and customers. 

  • Review and analyze weekly inventory levels and recommend changes to purchase plans and forecasts. 

  • Work with purchasing teams to ensure consistent updates are communicated to the distribution centers. 

  • Develop and implement plans to improve turn and meet customer promise dates. 

  • Complete all required training modules and certifications prior to the due date. 

  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure a safe work environment for all. 

  • Communicate professionally with all internal and external contacts. 

  • Follow all Company policies and execute Company standards on appearance and functionality as well as appropriate brand representation. 

  • Communicate any concerns or issues to leadership to ensure proper efficiency of department and company operations. 

  • Execute team member performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and terminations when appropriate per Company policy. 

Non-Essential Responsibilities

Education 

  • Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Data Analytics or Business-related field and/or equivalent experience required 

  • Master's Degree Supply Chain, Data Analytics or Business-related field and/or equivalent experience preferred 

Professional Experience 

  • 5+ Years in Supply Chain, Logistics or Analytics required 

  • 3+ Years project management experience preferred 

  • 2+ Years process improvement or Lean Six Sigma experience preferred 

  • 3+ Years experience with business intelligence and financial analysis tools required
