In ING’s Global Retail strategy ‘BeFirst’ one of the Business Banking bold moves is to claim the position as financer of the sustainable transition. In the ING NL Horizon '28 strategy, we as BB NL set ourselves the goal to support our customers in reducing their CO2e emissions through specific insights, advice and products.
To give substance to this ambition, BB NL started the Terra for Growth program. With Terra for Growth we want to reduce financed emissions and grow the share of sustainable finance in the total BB lending book. We are developing a dual approach to help the Netherlands to become more sustainable: an asset-based approach and a sector-based approach for our emission intense customers. The main activities Terra for Growth are:
Explore & design our sustainability value proposition Collect data & reporting of financed emission (Terra approach) Develop sustainable products, customer journeys and activate sales Integrate ESG Risk
The Business Banking NL ESG Team is responsible for the further development of the BB NL sustainability proposition and the overall program management of Terra for Growth. As ESG Consultant you will be part of the BB ESG team.
The role and responsibilities
As an ESG consultant, you have an important role in the development of our value proposition to help customers to become more sustainable. To this end, it is important to understand what the main challenges are in the field of sustainability in the various sectors. What is needed to realize the transition? How can we help? And which third party suppliers or partnerships are needed to help customers with an E2E solution?
You work closely with colleagues from different departments, such as Global - and NL Sustainability, BB NL Delivery Tribes, BB NL Sector Banking, BB NL Sustainable. In this role you will:
- Contribute to the development of our ESG approach and translate it into excellent customer propositions;
- Translate customer & stakeholder needs and trends into practical advice and initiatives
- Pro-actively make suggestions towards internal stakeholders how to improve on our sustainability objectives;
- Lead one or more of our ESG initiatives/projects where you are overall responsible for the design, planning and implementation of the initiatives and steer on execution and timely delivery;
- Work for 75% of time to specific projects/topics and around 25% of time on flexible projects/topics
How to be successful

- You have experience in setting up customer propositions and translating customer needs into solutions/customer journeys;
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities proactively, and manage & monitor
- You have a strong affinity with Sustainability.
- Having solid understanding of sustainability principles, and ESG frameworks is a pre.
- Strong communication and presentation skills in both English and Dutch
- Ability to influence and engage a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels
For the role of Sustainability Consultant you also bring:
- Strong analytical skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
- A completed WO education or a comparable level of work;
- Understanding of the business banking market and organization (pre).
