This role is for a UX Researcher with a strong focus on UX Research. The primary responsibility of this role is to plan, execute, analyze, and report on user research activities that support the development of clinical applications. This individual will work closely with the Clinical Product Management team based in San Diego, while also maintaining regular communication with the Finnish Product Management organization and other UX designers within the company. Although the primary focus is on UX research, the role also involves contributing to UX and high level concept design and validating those designs with end users and focus groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • User Research:
    • Collaborate with Product Management teams to identify research needs and develop research plans.
    • Conduct various types of user research, including user interviews, focus groups, usability testing, surveys, and field studies.
    • Analyze research data and synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights.
    • Prepare and present research reports that inform product development and design decisions.
  • UX & Concept Design:
    • Participate in the UX design process by contributing design ideas and creating UX concepts based on research insights.
    • Work with end users and focus groups to validate design concepts and gather feedback.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with the Clinical Product Management team in San Diego to align research activities with product development goals.
    • Maintain regular communication with the Finnish Product Management organization and other UX designers to ensure a cohesive approach to design and research across the company.
    • Engage with internal stakeholders to gather input and share research findings.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Facilitate workshops and discussions with clinicians, end-users, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and validate design concepts.
    • Ensure that stakeholder feedback is integrated into the product design and development process.
  • Reporting & Documentation:
    • Document research methodologies, findings, and recommendations.
    • Maintain a repository of research data and insights for future reference.

Competence Requirements:

  • Expertise in User Research: Proven experience in planning, conducting, and analyzing user research, with a strong understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • UX Design Knowledge: Solid understanding of UX design principles, with the ability to contribute to the design process and create user-centered design concepts.
  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Ability to clearly communicate complex research findings to a variety of stakeholders, both in written and verbal formats.
  • Collaboration Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional and global teams.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to interpret research data and translate it into actionable insights and design improvements.

Skill Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-5 years + of experience in UX research and/or UX design, with a preference for experience in the healthcare or clinical applications domain.
  • Tools Proficiency: Proficiency in UX research and design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, Axure, or similar.
  • Global Collaboration: Experience in working with global teams and managing communication across different time zones.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and creatively to solve complex design challenges.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to balance research and design responsibilities and to adapt to changing project needs.

Base Pay:

Expected Base Pay Range: $120,000 to $140,000 Annualized

The base pay range included is a projected hiring range for a position, level and potential work location(s) listed.  Topcon provides the compensation range that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. This compensation range is based on a full-time schedule.   

Bonus eligible:

 In addition to base pay, compensation for this position includes eligibility for a 5% annual bonus.
