What You'll Do

As our Corporate Counsel, you will work with all parts of the business. Avalara attorneys provide direction and work through others. The Corporate Counsel will report to the Senior Corporate Counsel and must be based in a commutable distance to our Durham, NC. office.

Attorneys at Avalara draft and negotiate general commercial agreements (such as SaaS, vendor, and other technology services agreements), resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships, provide guidance on a broad range of issues (including data privacy and security, marketing, employment, mergers and acquisitions, public company matters, and procurement), provide daily legal advice, manage legal interns, and assist with other legal matters. The Corporate Counsel will communicate with the internal business partners about legal requests and the status of contracts, seeking clarification on commercial matters and sign off on negotiated outcomes.

What You'll Need to be Successful

Avalara attorneys provide direction and work through others and must have the following attributes:

  • At least 3 years of relevant legal experience with a preference for candidates with at least 4+ years of experience.
  • Admitted to the bar of a U.S. state in good standing and willing to register with the North Carolina State Bar as an inhouse counsel, if applicable.
  • Team player who enjoys working with and supporting other members of the Legal department and employees across the company.
  • Flexibility to work in multiple legal disciplines and adaptable to changing business needs.
