Job description

The Opportunity
Set out as 24 to 36-month rotation, the Director/Managing Director, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief Investment Officers will work closely with the CIOs and the Investment Senior Leadership Team (ISLT) to support business management functions within the Investments Division. Key responsibilities include ownership of senior meetings, monitoring and decision making related to budget and headcount, serving as a proxy to the CIOs on operational activities, and coordinating various communications for internal and external engagements. The position also includes providing support to the Investments representative on People & Operations committee, monitoring progress against objectives, and serving as a trusted advisor to the CIOs and ISLT.

Who You'll Work With

As Chief of Staff, you will work closely with Teachers’ CIOs (for Asset Allocation and for Public and Private Investments) on business management activities and with the ISLT. You will collaborate with Marketing & Communications to prepare internal and external related communications; and to support CIOs involvement in events and engagements. You will also work with the broader team of Investments leaders across asset classes and regional offices to ensure efficient operations.
 

What You'll Do

  • Orchestrate the agenda, distribute supporting materials, and facilitate discussions for the Investment Senior Leadership Team meetings and other senior leadership team meetings

  • Project manage all actions out of ISLT meetings and ensure accountability of follow up in accordance with agreed timelines.

  • Co-ordinate relevant Board presentations, speaking notes, communications and reporting

  • Lead the budget coordination and planning for Investment Division in partnership with ISLT, People & Culture and enterprise planning team

  • Act as a proxy to the CIOs in approving expenses, invoices, and contracts aligned to investment plan and budget

  • Ensure hiring plans and people related changes are aligned with established headcount plans

  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to prepare CIOs for participation in internal and external events and engagements including Town Halls, press releases, interviews, etc.

  • Provide support to designated Investments representative on enterprise People & Operations committee specifically by providing input to headcount, expenses, and other operational people matters for Investments.

  • Monitor progress against division objectives; provide documentation and reporting as required.

  • Collaborate with Strategy & Stakeholder Relations to translate the refreshed enterprise strategy and related plans into action

  • Maintain regular touchpoints and communications with Executive Managing Directors across the asset classes and regional offices

  • Coach, develop and lead a high performing team of 2-3 direct reports; as well as, the pool of Investments Executive Assistants and Senior Executive Assistants

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CIOs, ISLT, and their senior teams by providing advice and guidance through well researched and thoughtful recommendations

  • Participate in other projects as assigned

What You Need

  • Undergraduate degree; MBA or other graduate degree strongly preferred

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive work experience within Financial industry

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to distill key elements of complex and ambiguous issues with practical bias to drive impact

  • Outstanding communication, facilitation and presentation skills

  • Ability to build credibility, drive consensus, develop networks and influence without direct ownership

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills enabling the balance of multiple competing priorities with demanding deadlines

  • Keen ability to translate strategic intent into action

  • Experience and success in developing/leading highly skilled teams (especially in a matrixed environment)

  • Investments knowledge and experience working in strategy consulting or investment banking preferred
