The Opportunity

Dermatology is one of the fastest growing therapeutic areas in veterinary medicine. In this key role you will act as our in-house dermatology R&D expert; based on your up-to-date scientific knowledge of the latest advances in veterinary and human dermatology, together with the current unmet medical needs in this area, you will contribute to shaping Dechra's pipeline of innovation in this therapeutic space. This role could be perfectly suited to a post-doctoral research veterinary dermatologist or veterinary scientist with first-hand experience in the field of dermatology. Main Responsibilities

In this role you you will lead and establish the pre-clinical dermatology drug candidate screening processes and support our global clinical drug development project teams. This may include setting up collaborations with third parties to develop in-vitro assays, in-vivo disease models, establishing the pre-clinical and clinical development strategy for dermatology projects with our development teams, study protocol development, interpretation of study data, etc.

As a subject matter expert, you will be required to keep up to date with the latest scientific and clinical advancements in veterinary dermatology. You will be required to attend relevant scientific meetings and maintain an extensive network of contacts, establishing and facilitating Key Opinion Leader advisory boards as needed.

You will also work closely with portfolio management, global product development, business development, strategic marketing, regulatory affairs and our Dermatology Therapeutic Area Leadership Team.

  • Graduate veterinarian (D.V.M., B.V.Med., or equivalent).
  • Experienced in clinical research and in companion animal veterinary dermatology.
  • Relevant advanced qualification highly preferred (MSc, PhD, board certified DipACVD, DipECVD or equivalent).
  • In-depth understanding of the design, conduct and reporting of scientific studies, in laboratory situations and/or in the field.
  • First-hand experience working with, setting up and validating in-vitro and in-vivo disease models.
  • Excellent knowledge of the therapeutic landscape, the latest trends and advancements in veterinary/human dermatology.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; ability to make the complex clear.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally in a multicultural/international, matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated networking, influencing and negotiating abilities; able to build trust and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-driven, motivated, highly organized and quality orientated.
  • Able to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience of drug development, regulatory agency organizations, VICH and FDA regulations and guidelines, and applicable international regulatory requirements advantageous, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of GCP and/or GLP advantageous.
  • Experience of conducting research in a regulated environment an advantage.
  • A market-led mindset in the application of scientific research an advantage.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally / internationally ~25%.
