This role is REMOTE anywhere in the United States.

As a seasoned UX Lead, you will be responsible for guiding, supporting, and leading a team of User Experience Designers and Researchers. This role ensures the delivery of usable, meaningful, and valuable digital solutions that align with business needs and user requirements.

You will work closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and various business and technical teams to: define strategy, research and design needs; understand technology limitations that impact user experience; and implement design solutions that improve overall product experience and meets business objectives.

You must be able to understand complex digital solutions for retail logistics and supply-chain relationships, involving compliance, inspections, and certification processes within a heavy regulated environment. You will need to collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that enhance compliance efficiency and data integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Discovery and Ideation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate and synthesize ideas. Conduct competitive research, market analysis, and customer value analysis for new product concepts. Evaluate how different user and data interaction strategies can impact the product design to ensure seamless flow of information across various UL solutions.
  • User-Centric Design: Create prototypes and experiments to validate product ideas. Conduct data-gathering activities, including concept validation and usability testing sessions with potential customers or users. Monitor UX outcomes, including definition, analysis and tracking of UX metrics to ensure success.
  • Product Experience Leadership: Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, building strong working relationships. Collaborate with product team to create minimally viable products, iterating based on customer behavior to achieve market fit. Build rapport w/product and business leads to understand their needs. Provide design leadership to technical teams.
  • Team Management: Manage the performance of direct or indirect reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives. Provide feedback, mentorship and guidance, ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.
  • UX Strategy: Work with senior management and product owners to set organizational UX strategy. Define and drive user-centered design process for interdisciplinary teams. Set goals and measure outcomes related to ensuring the usability of our digital products and websites.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate workshops with internal stakeholders to support strategy, ideation, roadmap, and discovery activities.
  • Gather requirements by analyzing audiences, objectives, user needs, and business needs.
  • Determine UX methodologies and deliverables necessary to ensure achieving previously defined product and business outcomes.
  • Develops user scenarios, navigational structures, sitemaps, user/task flows, and functional template as needed for the project at hand.
  • Guide, instruct and overview the process of designing and building of digital solutions using the latest technologies, frameworks, and tools (such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, React, Materials 3, AI/ML/LLM, etc.).
  • Uses knowledge of Section 508 accessibility compliance when applicable.
  • Promote and implement VoC (Voice of the Customer) processes to continuously gather user feedback and promote continuous improvements.
  • Mentor and assist User Experience Designers in other teams.
  • Drive the use and improvement of UL’s design system
  • Participate in the global UX community to raise UL’s profile and help attract top talent, enhance collaboration and drive the adoption of UL’s design system.
  • Evangelize user experience design in all opportunities throughout the company.

Technical Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively convey design ideas to non-design stakeholders, expressing complex information and concepts in clear and simple ways.
  • Ability to understand and integrate complex systems into user-friendly interfaces, considering impact and approaches to incorporating industry regulations and compliance requirements into the design process.
  • Ability to inspire and manage others. Ability to coach and mentor others
  • Strong problem-solving skills with focus on improving supply chain efficiency & data integration.
  • Expert knowledge of tools, methodologies and principles of UX/UI design, usability, information architecture, interaction design, and their role throughout the software life cycle.
  • Experience working in modern research, prototyping, and design tools (e.g., Figma, MIRO, DoveTail, etc.).
  • Familiarity with wireframing, design specs, and industry trends with ability to create strong visuals and interactive prototypes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience in relevant fields such as User Experience Design, Usability, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Computer Science, or Graphic Design.
  • Experience: At least 6 years of experience delivering digital business and marketing projects with tangible results. Strong understanding of user-centered design principles. Workshop facilitation experience is a plus.
  • Past work: Familiarity with retail industry trends and customer behavior and/or experience in designing digital solutions involving logistics, supply-chain relationships, and data integrations in heavily regulated environments. Proven ability to understand and integrate complex systems into user-friendly processes and interfaces.

  • Total Rewards: The salary range for this position is $120,000-$140,000 of the salary range and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position.

All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 20% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level.

We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
