Job description

Job Overview

We are actively seeking a focused and detail-oriented Medical/Dental Biller to join our dynamic team in a remote capacity. In this pivotal role, you will utilize the Athena EMR platform to accurately and efficiently process claims, providing critical support to our health centers, including the School-Based Health Centers (SBHC). As you enhance your expertise, you will be entrusted with additional responsibilities that contribute to your professional growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and submit both electronic and paper claims using billing software
  • Follow up on outstanding claims within the standard billing cycle
  • Ensure insurance payments are verified for accuracy and compliance with contractual agreements
  • Liaise with insurance providers to rectify payment discrepancies
  • Obtain necessary pre-authorizations for treatments
  • Manage secondary and tertiary insurance billing
  • Conduct follow-up on insurance and patient inquiries, including appeals for denied claims
  • Verify patients' eligibility and benefits for treatments and procedures
  • Review and rectify patient bills for completeness and accuracy
  • Establish patient payment plans and oversee collections
  • Update cash spreadsheets and prepare collection reports
  • Ensure timely completion of all tasks and maintain dependable attendance

Required Skills

  • Strong ability to work independently and solve problems efficiently
  • Excellent data entry skills with familiarity in Practice Management Systems
  • Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology with acute attention to detail
  • Highly organized, self-driven, and comfortable in a collaborative environment
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • An Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Healthcare Administration is preferred
  • 1-3 years of billing experience in a medical or dental office is necessary (experience in FQHC is preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Practice Management Systems is essential
  • Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 coding is advantageous
